a quote from the piece on the front page from "onesport"

>>The home side fielded close to their best line-up with the only notable absentees being skipper Andrew Durante who sat out the match through suspension, while defender Tony Lochhead remained unavailable after recent trials with Middlesbrough.

Key squad missing

Conversely ,Victory went into the match without a number of key squad members including regular captain Kevin Muscat, experienced midfielder Grant Brebner, plus Olyroos trio Archie Thompson, Leigh Broxham and Billy Celeski. <<

this ignores the fact that we had only 1 of what looked like ricki's first choice back four on the park,

sure they mention durante and Lochy's names - but dealing with the absence of the two wide defenders we had built the pre-season planning around (Lochy & Lia) and having to move Doddy from his succesful holding roll (to cover for Durante) all adds up to a player availability issue that was not that far from Melbourne's position

to give the impression that we ahd no real issues to deal with and that they were vastly more disadvantaged than us is rubbish reporting "conversely blah, blah, blah" - bullsh*t!

most of us seemed to agree that Manny Muscat, Siggy (and Troy) did well defensively; but with the exception of Troy they did not give us the pace and attacking confidence out wide to get outside Leo/Leilei/Daniel

disappointing onesport, how about deciding to think through the situation before tapping out a misleading piece?

sure Melbourne had players missing, but we also had to deal with some significant absences, which onesport glossed over

not precious as i see the world Bopman, even seemingly little things count in the promotion of any idea

i view this as poor journalism

looks like they pulled it off the SMH site

they (sportone) are supposed to be a NZ site, but it seems they took the aussie perspective and uncritically pushed it out to the nz sporting public

i don't want potential phoenix fans underestimating our ability, based on the media's inaccurate portrayal of the relative player unavailability for each side

if it is precious to want the absolute best for the club i care about, then i expect you'll be typing that word out a few more times over the next years

(yes, good on them  for the tv coverage you note, but that wasn't the issue that i was raising)

have a good un

you say it was pulled from the smh site, was it perhaps written by the smh and used by channel 1? Because that would explain the australian focus.
I like playing the devils advocate
