Prime Minister on ABC news  TBH I never tho this day would come but mark this as a land mark day. Every businessman around the country heard and has read about this

Standing with Frank Lowy and Harry Kewell, prime minister Kevin Rudd said

" We intend to take this code of football to the next level in mainstream Australia " Other codes will have to take a back seat as we bid for the world cup " end of quote Hope I got it right .
One hell of a statement

Reportes in the press today

ABC

SMH

Fox

SBS

Some of my fav bits

from the fox link
Mr Rudd not only received a thank you from Kewell, he also was given a Socceroo shirt.

Taking a line from the hit movie The Castle, he promised it would be going "straight to the pool room".

From the SMH

On budget night, while other sports were being cut to pieces by the razor gang, Lowy was making sure the hand that signs the paper made good on a pledge to give football $32 million over the next four years. At a chief executives lunch in Sydney last week, John O'Neill and David Gallop could barely disguise their disappointment that promises made to them had been broken.

So there was Rudd, striding onto the North Sydney turf, a huge media posse in tow. Talking to some Socceroos, and some Matildas, he quipped: "This game of football is the world game. The Socceroos, the Matildas, are our diplomats. More people around the world observe what they do than ever observe any speech I deliver, anywhere."

They don't call Australia the lucky country for nothing.....its now up to FFA to grab this opportunity with both hands and go for it.

As a kiwi I am really pleased for Australian football...coz in general whats good for the game in Oz is generally good for the game here.

For example if the Socceroos go to the next WC...then it will be heavily covered in the NZ media and any football coverage is good coverage. Also if Oz get to host the 2018 WC....well, football in this part of the world would go ballistic!!!

There was no luck about this. It has been years in the making, like send old NSL broke, get out of OFC, get into AFC, start up A-League, make WC in doing so appoint one of the worlds best coaches, talk gov's of various levels in funding, womens league, youth league. In all this get the backers necessary to fund A-League teams, make up with European coaches.

So lucky maybe but ........... the old saying the harder I work the luckier I get.

FFA with FA there will not let go to waste ............ seeing what happens next will be interesting.

Yeah signing Gus Hiddink as WC coach was a stroke of genius...

Didn't that other dutchie who they tried to get, but walked out on them coach the EUAFA cup winners over the Rangers. St petersburg was the club....isn't FFA sueing him for breach of contract.

Whats the new guy like......so far so good I guess.

New guy in most people opinion is better than the guy that worked out. Pim goes to A-League matches speaks his mind, has hand picked about 25 A-Leagur players and keeps brining them into socceroos camps to impriove therir skill. He also takes the coaches if they want to Socceroo traiing sessions to improve there coaching. This is huge as will lift the level of skill in the A-League over a fairly short time time.

Is helping with the youth league coaching ......... and it the juniors. He is astute manager gets on with the European coaches and has reached key decisions about certain players, is ensuring good players get capped before other countries cap them.

He worked as Gus Hiddink 2IC for 10 years or there abouts.

To date he was the right choice the next four weeks will tell if he is made of the right stuff 5 matches including 4 WCQ two in Middle East.

BTW and off topic you guys, meaning your management, is getting heaps of praise on a number of football forums in OZ and most see you as a top four, a bit to live up to, but your management or should I say the skill of your management team is considered excellent, many are saying equal to the Mariners off the park .......... just passing it on ............ who ever at your club or the team running your club is impressing big time in OZ ......... so need at least a pat on the back . So from Midfielder to YF management well done and congts on a job well done off the park.

there are a few kiwis migrating to ockerland these days - the  media says it's for the wages - but if i was ever prepared to brave snakes, box jellyfish, stone fish and the other animals that joel griffiths is lower than, it would only be for the football

and even then I'd be back as soon as the tournament was finished

oh yeh, good on you Mr Rudd, ya liddle ozzie bewdy

Even I admit - the last 3 years have been fairly stunning for OZ football.  f**k.  Even if it meant sharing a 'private moment' with Helen for 10mins to make the NZ govt show 10% of the interest Rudd does in football - I'd do it.

Football Federation Australia (FFA) today named the first group of football ambassadors who will form an important part of Australias growing family of football supporters.

Just as football appeals to a wide range of Australians right across the spectrum, our chosen Ambassadors reflect this diversity and are drawn from all walks of life, said FFA CEO, Ben Buckley.

Our ambassadors include politicians, journalists, sports people, entrepreneurs, chefs and performers.

Some of our Ambassadors love the excitement of big international matches; others simply enjoy a kick in the park with their kids; others just get a kick out of supporting the team that unites Australians the Qantas Socceroos.

Buckley said that the ambassadors will tell their own story, and promote Australia and Australian football as FFA builds towards its aspirations to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Australia.

The coming month will be an exciting time for football fans as the Qantas Socceroos embark on five matches in five weeks in Super June, including two World Cup Qualifiers here in Australia presented by FOXTEL.

We are also gearing up to host the FIFA Congress in Sydney next week with delegates from the other 207 member nations of FIFA involving around 2,000 visitors from football globally as well a contingent of international media.

This is a great event for Sydney and it is also an exciting opportunity for us to position Australia as a potential host for significant football tournaments such as the FIFA Club World Cup (2009 and 2010), the Asian Football Confederation's Asian Cup (2015) and the FIFA World Cup (2018), Buckley said.

The ambassadors named by Buckley today include:

Ahmed Fahour, CEO, National Australia Bank
Alex Perry, fashion designer
Anthony La Paglia, actor
Cameron Williams, television presenter
George Negus, journalist
Geraldine Doogue, journalist
Ian Thorpe, sportsman
Jeff Fenech, sportsman
John Stanley, radio presenter
Karl Stefanovic, television presenter
Kate Ellis, Minister for Sport
Mike Conway, representing The Wiggles
Stephanie Brantz, television presenter
Stephen Conroy, Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy

And in closing I can see red
