He just likes to wind people up. Probably why no one voted for him when he tried his luck with the national party.

I'm interested to know what people actually do think the point of the Phoenix is...

I think, 'the pathway' first and foremost - but based on reading these forums over the past, few months...it seems like a lot of people believe it's something far different.

Originally it brought back memories of when I first started watching live football in London but now its something different. I have respect for the Nix because win or lose, they are ours. Watching something like this being built from the ground up is something quite beautiful. It is also showing not only Australia that we have a right to be in a league of this class - but New Zealand that we are something more than a bunch of sheep farmers who are addicted to the oval ball.
When I am wearing my nix scarf or jacket, even when it isn't game day, complete strangers come up to me and ask how the team are doing - some even just say "come on the nix". To me this shows that this team isn't just some pet project, something to bump up the numbers. It is something which identifies who we are as Wellingtonians.

not all sheep farmers are addicted to that oval ball game , as i am a sheep farmer on the wairarapa coast, and have had a season ticket for the last 2 seasons , so i really am an exception to the norm, .......and was really proud of the lads for the return to form against the bling , as for paul henry .......he needs to pull his head in and go on another intrepid journey or something , as he dont know sh.#t about football or the people that love the game ...........sack paul henry this week not rikki . lol . and get jack tame in there..........

I find him hilarious, in the end he only says what he does to get a reaction. whether he means it or not is debatable.

Anyone seen the dom post this morning.  John Millmow writes

"Then there is coach Ricki Herbert. Walk down Lambton Quay and plenty of football diehards will tell you Stu Jacobs should be the man in charge, but Herbert kept the knockers at the bay, at least in the short term"

and

"The Phoenix had plenty of heroes in front of a near-empty house (just 6729 spectators, to be precise)."

millmow is a twat, likes to stir things up.  Who cares we won, if we keep winning the numbers increase.

Meh.

Millmow and co. know that if the Lions form was like the Phoenix they would struggle to get 6700.

They dislike the Fever and love to put a jab in whenever they can.  Bitter and sad little men living in a world where New Zealand is Rugby, Racing and Beer...  they've become an irrellevance, an anachronism...

...best ignored.

Henry is just baiting. At least he knows who the Phoenix are. I can live with his snide comments.

The Dom made two mentions of the crowd size - labouring the point somewhat. once on the front page, and once in the story itself. On top of that, Millmow threw in his own "near empty space" remark.

Interestingly, the Herald article was much more positive (which hasnt typically been the case) and didnt spend half the column space dwelling on crowd size. But, Millmow seems to enjoy taunting the Fever.

Fred is/was sick.

Laughed when Jack Tame TV1 Breakfast was showing off the new display at Te Papa and put Paul Henry's picture next to the Phoenix logo, "because we all know what a huge Wellington Phoenix fan Paul is"

Given pearceeuro96's fess up re sheep farming in the rapa.

Perhaps we should start up the Phoenix Agricultural Professionals Society (although the acronym might need some work!)

Start advertising memberships in NZ Dairy Exporter magazine or such.

ps. I'm not taking the piss pe96, just making a light hearted observation. I think it's great that the Nix is able to draw a passionate support from outside the urban Wellington region. Good on ya!

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

I think the acronym works fine... as long as they don't have too many 'mares!

To be fair, Henry had more-or-less identical sentiments about the Warriors earlier in the season. He chooses an easy target and tries to be provocative as possible. Millmow loves his cricket too much, I wonder when the last time the Basin last saw 6,700 for a domestic game was... Leeds_Chris2008-09-29 18:30:35

Well bugger me if this bloke hasn't gone & got himself a gig on Ch-10's Breakfast News.
Thought it was odd them having a host wearing glasses, very "un-Australian".

I've been in Australia for the past week AND THE MAN IS BLOODY EVERYWHERE. Had big features in the sunday papers yesterday and earlier in the week as well.

I think the novelty will wear off pretty fast though, they seem to be treating him like a bit of a gimmick.
