Phoenix have made no secret of their A-League ambitions but if Ricki Herbert's men were to finish top of the pile this year, it is unclear what the reward would be.

The other seven A-League clubs would head for the Asian Champions League but New Zealand is part of the Oceania Federation.

That is a potential issue but the other option is the O-League and potential participation in the Club World Cup.

Phoenix have sought advice and opinions from both Football Federation Australia and Oceania on the issue and now it is up to world football's governing body to make a ruling.

Phoenix CEO Tony Pignata told au.fourfourfourtwo.com: "It's an issue that we have examined closely and sought the advice and support of the FFA and Frank Lowy for example.

"The O-League is the other option but at the end of the day it is now for FIFA to decide.

"As a club we just want to participate in one of these competitions.

"We're hoping that the next month will see a decision made."

At this point I want to start ranting about how the OFC is a waste of time and how both NZ and the island nations would be better off in the AFC but it's been discussed before so I won't.
