Are the rumours of Vaughan Coveny's return to NZ true??

It would be a fantastic
way to finish my career and it gives me an extra incentive to give
something back to
Wellington Coveny said.
"I came to Australia in 1992 but my heart is with New Zealand and
Wellington."
Covs has been quoted as saying he wants to play at home but questions must be asked about whether he is still A-League quality considering his age.
Having said that, the list of decent NZ forwards these days starts and ends at Killen or a bunch of youngsters showing promise so it must be tempting too give him a Super Sub role off the bench and to use his pace against tiring defenders in the last 30.
(Incidentally if you visit www.theworldgame.com.au avoid the forum, it's about as dim as A-League related forums get)

As a first season signing yes, lets face it at least he knows where
the net is.

Is he a big enough name in Welly, and by extension NZ, to be your
franchise player? Or do you think you could do better?

Let's get Killen - and that isn't typo

I like the idea, but he's a big risk of injury and would require a
Marquee salary I imagine. The other question is whether he
would head home when he's finally making noise in Scotland.

Lets get Chris James on loan from Fulham :D

CJ on loan from Fulham might not be a bad idea. . . But I can't see
the lad wantign to play over here when he could get called up for a
premiership game so long as he stays and trains in London.

Yeah he wouldnt be too far off a bench spot for Fulham.
Maybe one year late on CJ then?

Yeah, unless they'll release him and hel get picked up by a
cham,pionshi/league 1 side

I'm looking back on my copy of STAND UP IF YOU LOVE THE KINGZ and
checking out the "imports and Aussies" that made up part of the
Football Kingz inaugural season and they had:
Dino Mennillo, Robbie Middleby, Levent Osman, Marcus
Stergiopoulos, Daniel Duke (Oz), Batram Suri (Solomons) and
Aaron Silva (Chile).
Middleby maybe didn't perform at his best but when he was on
his game he was good value, Sterg was great in every facit,
Mennillo was strong but disappeared when the money wasn't around
for wages and Silva added a bit of flair. Bartman was played out of
position.
I do think finding the best Australians to form a base of the
Phoenix side is Herbert's priority.
The Warriors seem to have found the right crop of them this
season, although it is early days for them. I certainly don't want
to see the likes of the English has-beens and never were's that
have come here and delivered nothing.
Incidently, if anyone wants a copy of STAND UP IF YOU LOVE THE
KINGZ,email me at ronaldo@world-net.co.nz - it
was an "unofficial review of the Football Kingz inagural season
1999/2000" and for a couple of bucks I will post you this 108 page
fans publication produced by myself and photographer Michael
Stephen.
