Every side plays in a white away strip, whether they like it or not.

Got it now.  Whining about shirt prices.  Half the price of the ABs World Cup one yet still too expensive.

As for Mr,. Sideline polo.  You can get a Phoenix Adidas Polo for less than your $70 for your 49ers one.  That's not a playing strip.

I texted in making the valid point the a Breakers singlet is $180 and the All Blacks jersey was $210 last year and all I get is a "yeah well it was world cup yeah so everyone again wants to clip their ticket."

Pretty sure I even saw Breakers shorts for more than $100. warriors jerseys are $180 too and so are any Super 15 top. ITM Cup tops can be more than $200 too so Phoenix is easily the cheapest. But the original argument was a child's jersey and I agree that $120 is too much for one of them.

So much meh.

I wouldn't buy the current stripey because it's quite expensive (in absolute terms, not relative to other codes' paraphernalia) and also there will be another strip out every two years (and also I like old stripey).

If a strip really did push my buttons (possibly the away strip... long sleeved) I'd lash out, but again that would be me for a couple or four years.

Unless you're a current season product whore the price over several years of wear isn't too bad is it?

On most thing from England  multiply pound by three to get a gst and duty free price including freight.  40 pound x 3 120$

And they also have 20% VAT (equivalent of GST)...

Prices for football / rugby tops in New Zealand really are crazy.  SPL tops have been 35 GBP for years now - that's about $70 NZD.

Not that long ago 35 GBP = 115 NZD.

I guess, but even then that's still significantly cheaper than the $140+ we're asked to pay.

Possibly our small market affects prices too?

I think $140 is quite high - but it's not total scalping like an AB RWC shirt.

I forget how much I paid for season 3&4 stripey - think I used the club discount voucher.  Luckily I like that one much more than the season 5&6 and i'll probably just wear it until my middle aged spread prevents me doing so.

I think the constant re-design of strips is purely for sponsorship opportunities and somewhat disrespectful to fans (or at least views them as totally secondary to the advertising revenue).

That said - we shouldn't feel the need to buy in to the latest kit and if lashing out $140 is going to last you 2-4 years, it's still not too unreasonable.
