Just though I'd ask what people think about our young up and coming football talent.
I'm coaching at Ham Boys and we have 24 teams this year, its unreal and the ability of some....

They have such good skills now adays, I played with a couple age group boys and a old nz rep and they are nothing compared to some now.

One 15 year old here in Hamilton (unfortunately not at  HBHS) is playing Northern Premier League and scoring every other week.

Whats it like elsewhere?

I think the skill level of young players in ZN is finally starting to catch up with the rest of the world. Football is now much more accepted and accessible here. Kids don't have to grow up in Rugby dominated communities anymore if they don't want to. I think that given 20 years or so, Footy could become an even competitor with Rugby here in terms of numbers and maybe even TV coverage.

For TV coverage, you need to get soccer lovers into top media jobs.

You're dead right there. Our media have a vested interest in supporting a minority (in world terms) sport like rugby and I think that sucks. The football being played these days is streets ahead of where we were twenty years ago and yet local media pay lip service to it. Hopefully the Nix will help to change this. It would be great to see local youngsters like Brockie and Costa footing it in the A league after the so-so super duper 14 was so-so super ordinary. And there are plenty of other young kiwi players around that just need to get noticed, there not all playing in Federation age group teams either. Lets all try and get to the games and show these rugby heads what real support is.

What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?

I've on been here for eighteen months (still a bloody foreigner) and I was very impressed by the standard of football played by the kiwi youth (& seniors for that matter), so much so that I used to go down Endeavour Park Whitby, to watch every week.

The media & the education authorities will one day realise what amazing talent is being supressed by the old guard.

Just need to stop the young footy players dabbling with rugby at college, and not let them get burn-out from too much footy that makes them want to quit. That and laying off the P.

We could pretend to be "concerned mothers" and make schools ban rugby, so that the good young footballers will stick with football.

Ban anything and the kids will want to do it - ban football and we might get somewhere!
