Racism Rife in NZ Sport Says Banned Fooballer

Probably quite true, but he will be dismissed because he got the red mist (and I'm not condoning his actions at all).

In my experience playing sport in NZ I've seen next to no racism at all. Even the absolute nutters aren't usually low enough to go there. I could just be lucky enough to not come across it though I guess. 

Article makes it sound like he is just using it as a defence. Think it said he has a history on the field etc. don't exactly see anyone backing him up. 

Pure speculation of course,just an impression from the article. So don't sue me for deformation.

 Ive witnessed my fair share of racism in wellington football, yeah it happens. I could throw out one pretty big well known name - but i wont. And 'your mothers a whore' is pretty common actually, nothing new there.

It certainly turned media attention away from the fact that he assaulted a referee that's for sure. Wonder if it'll have the same effect in court. 

Funny cause a mate of mine knows Tama and reckons that if anyone was gonna smack a referee, it would have been him.

I don't doubt there is an element of it in NZ sport but in this case, I think its a diversionary tactic. If he had a point, would the other side not stand up for him in court and say 'oh yeah the ref told him to fuck off' etc? Don't see any witnesses (or teams) coming out to support him.
