Worse thing is I suspect it wasn't.  Most of the Australian items have been accenting the positives of the Phoenix display.  The negative stuff has all come from this side of the Tasman.

See my post in the general forum.
There are some right b*stards in the NZ media, and they are coming to the fore now. Both those articles were written by NZPA, which is then circulated through the country - and is what most Kiwis outside Wellington will have read.
Fortunately though, the most important media is the Wellington local rag and they are doing the Phoenix proud.

The articles/reports I've seen up here haven't exactly been encouraging. B******s,

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Yes I had a sneaking feeling that the upallatable truth was that some Rugby mad journo's were responsible when I noticed that the story came from NZPA.  As journalists they need to be shot!!! Fred Woodcock's articles are always very well written and balanced.  The only red faces will be those journos for writing such tripe, when the Phoenix gels and wins the A-League!

Somehow I don't think it will just be the rugby journo's that will write BS like that.

I'm sure there will be more than just a few people north of the Bombays, journo's included, who would like nothing more than to see the Phoenix fail.

I don't suspect so Malky.  You have to remember that apart from about 1500 faithful no-one North ofthe Bombasy gave a sh*t about the A-League.  I can't see them wanting a failure, more just a complete disinterest in it.

Oh, except for a few of the more ignorant Auckland City fans (and one player) who are just laughable.

Note Buffy and Co. I say only a few, most of you are quality individuals, even Chanter

All media are scum. Even the media who try their hardest to be honest jokers, to tell it like it is, bless their liddle 'earts, but they're part of a big evil machine that is bigger and more evil than most of them could ever hope to do anything about.

Pretty much like Man U, really. *ducks*

So did anyone actually watch the game? We all got the match reports, but what we all want to know is, was it entertaining foosball?

I'm sure that you're probably got a point there Malky.  There's probably a few jafas snickering over their lattes down Ponsonby road at the Mariners result. Not sure about tall poppy syndrome, I think its a case of cut down any poppy starting to rise! You may not be too far from the truth about some Aucklanders secretly hoping the Phoenix fail either.  I'm originally from Auckland but escaped to Welly 5 years ago hallelujah! Never going back.  The reason there's football disinterest in Auckland is that they all have their calculators out, working out their net worth and can they fit in another investment property and should they sell one of their four cars!  I'm probably way over the top but you get the picture.  One of my siblings up there is one of the worst offenders I'm afraid to say!  All the more reason we MUST ensure the Wellington Phoenix succeeds in  this and coming seasons.  As for the media, I'd like to believe that there's some good ones out there!
