Sarah, from one Red to another, great to meet on these forums a woman whose distinct good taste in football teams indicates a highly cultured upbringing, and well rounded education in the classics....(Kay, Shankly, Dalglish etc) no doubt
You should be down here for the Nix v Melbourne Victory match this  Friday  7.30pm at the RoF.
(If you joined us in the Fever zone you'd need a Retro Ricki over your Liver bird shirt, mind.)
This will be a doozie!
The Nix squad, still licking their wounds after the Brisbane battering, may be a Muscat short of being armed and dangerous.....
....but will be looking to defend the home turf run and match the all time A-League record of 14 home matches undefeated.
Melbourne will be pumped after their 4-0 drubbing of GCU last week and looking for more spoils.
The Yellow Fever as 12th man will need to be in full voice to help take Victory at home.Bring it!

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

Did someone say breasts?

And I must say, the recently gleaned knowledge that AWB support's the LWC's has gone down like the preverbial CCS!!! This does however explain the occasional descent into mindless babble with which he (and admittedly pretty much everyone else to varying degrees) afflicts us all.

Although yes, any football coverage should and must be encouraged heartily!

Now, speaking of breasts... how about we ask Terry (or that dodgy BOB bloke who missed out on the New Plym Raza committee) to start a new league modeled loosely on this one...

But that sort of beverage-assisted talk is not babble - it is eloquent oration that makes perfect sense to the speaker ... at the time!

I concur... tho having received some (admittedly constructive) feedback from a sample of those lucky enuff to be in in receipt of said eloquent oration has indeed indicated that there can be very occasional exceptions to this general rule.

Wow, looks like you posted that using Microsoft Office for HTML editor (can tell by all the Office HTML cruft I had to remove).

Anyway, it would be good to see more media coverage of Phoenix games, look forward to see you in a Retro Ricki, and doing the 80 minute thing

So have any editions of the tvnz talkfootball podcast been released?

I still don't see why I would want to get European and Premier League football info from journos based in NZ when already you have the guardian's football weekly twice a week, plus the football ramble and then the times online football podcast, all from people who are actually speaking with players, attending matches etc.

Even if miss williams (and her breasts) know more about football than us as she claims (I'll suspend my judgement) does she really think that she will have more insite than those others?  Especially when TVNZ has ZERO credibility after (a) showing all whites qualifiers on TVNZ 6 (b) not sending anyone to Bahrain and (c) having "football coverage" which solely consists of showing the goals from the Premier League, in this order, Chelsea, Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool and suprise surprise now Man City, no matter what bearing that has on the league or the context of the matches.

Same for the Champions League but read English Clubs, then Madrid/Barcelona, and, um, that's it.

Let's not judge Miss Williams too harshly, despite who her employer is and her colleagues.

She's expressed an intent to come down and experience the Nix and the fever so we should welcome the opportunity for some coverage.

I agree that TVNZ does not have a good record for domestic football and that there are many sources for EPL and Europe.

Hopefully after the new year we will see more local football on TVNZ or at least on the website.

To be fair, those of us who already care about European football would go for resources based over there. And yes, they will almost certainly always be of a higher quality.  However only those who want it will look for it. The general punter who doesn't particularly care about football won't. If their only exposure to the game is an EPL highlight reel on NZ telly, and if that's enough to get them interested and then perhaps involved, then it's better than nothing.

I agree there should be more NZ-based coverage, but I certainly don't mind the extra stuff if it helps promote the game. Considering most news outlets would sooner report on Richie McCaw's breakfast than anything related to football, I'm not complaining about what we do have.

So after 2.5 seasons of successful football in her country (and even finishing last in season 1 was a success compared to where we had been before), she has expressed an intent to come and have a look at it?

I'm afraid I completely disagree.  Firstly, there is no reason why the random punter won't be and shouldn't be interested in local football, including the Phoenix and the All Whites. We've got to move beyond being thankful for what we get and actually demand some quality coverage of the whole of our game.  When Premier League and Europe are always the focus then people have no introduction to what is happening closer to home.  The recent All Whites game showed that with proper intelligent reporting people are interested and will get involved with NZF.  Showing premier league highlights does not complete your obligation to report on one of the most popular sports in New Zealand.

I don't know how long she has been in NZ and I've never been impressed with TVNZ's past efforts on football coverage (and particularly local/A-League).  But if TVNZ are prepared to send someone down to see a Nix game ... even after 2.5 seasons, that's got to be good (hasn't it?).

I wonder if we'll see any cover of Auckland's results in the FIFA Club World Cup...

Also, Sarah, could you please ensure references to Westpac Stadium refer to the 'Ring of Fire', rather than that other bakery related term the oval ball code likes to use

Hey.

Here is a blog on Auckland's win from my colleague Michael Burgess

Here is the actual news story on their historic win

And if you are so inclined you can tune into the 6pm news on ONE to watch an actual track on their win, with actual moving pictures of the goals and everything.

Cheers. S.

Hope that will suffice.

I know that 442 is generally bagged here and some of the bloggers have "tim tams" for brains, but have read the last two blogs from Kathy Stone, and other than that she looks similar to Leanne Malcolm from TV3 (= very cute), her blogs are very good reading.

Much better than one thin-lipped lippy lad for example...

Tenuously related to the LiverBird.

Here is an amusing wrap-up of odd things in footy from soccernet.

There is a link to a failed penalty save that Ms Williams posted on her blog thing the other day.
