Who is this Sarah Williams?  She has a weekly blog/podcast on TVNZ.co.nz site call TalkFootball.  What are her credentials apart from being born in Liverpool?

She has breasts.

Three for me, and two for them.

Is she on TV or just the website?

A Scouse lass talking football!  That's pretty tempting and might tear me away from the Caro and Toni show.

Just website.  She sounds a bit of alright   Yes, a Scousette, but not the strongest of Liver Bird accents.

I love it when girls have an interest in football - people like Sarah or Smithy can have as much knowledge about football as the next man.  I think Sarah should be encouraged, and maybe bought to Wellington to meet with the YF between December 20 and 2nd Jan.

Perferably in something skimpy.

So in true stalker fashion here is her bio from twitter (linked from tvnz site):

"I'm a football writer for TVNZ.co.nz whose main aim in life is to make the egg-chasin nation of NZ love football more...only when that is achieved, I will leave"

Looks like her blogs are mostly EPL stuff - so she really needs to have a sesh down here and experience the FZ in all it's pastey glory.

How can you really write anything of significance about the premier league from NZ?

I really don't see that as being controversial.

Journos in the UK have contacts at clubs, they actually speak to players, of course they will have more insight that someone writing based on what they see on TV and read on the internet.

That doesn't mean that all UK journalism is good, but surely almost everything written outside of the UK is derivative of opinions expressed esewhere?

What disappoints me most is that there could be more journalists concentrating on local football in NZ but are instead worried about English football that already has more than enough coverage. Like James, I fail to see the point of a Journalist sitting in an office in Auckland talking about English football when they could just as easily travel half an hour down the road and talk about the NZFC. It's not like we'd lose any English coverage but we'd gain some badly needed local coverage.

Hmm Ms Williams and Ms Mclaughlin...does anyone see a trend here?

Gourdie - watch your back!

Or is it just too long between home games?

Agree, need more coverage of Phoenix home games and NZFC.

Someone needs to sponsor her down for some Phoenix home-games in the FZ.

I'm absolutely with JD on this.
You can go to any website in the world to get news and commentary on the EPL etc so why should NZ journos write about it from half way around the world?
We should stick to covering football that relates to NZ.

Hey guys/gals?

So I have recently been alerted to this topic, on er, me of all things. ;-) and it seems my work here is somewhat dividing opinion.

So for all you moaners I'll start off by letting you know that I eat, sleep and breath football and even though I am in NZ my speciality is the EPL and European football, a subject that me and my breasts probably know more about than most of you stuck together...;-) and to be fair, in a country that is saturated with rugby, cricket and league I'd be happy that football is getting a mention anywhere, wherever it comes from.

BUT I also am well aware that NZ football needs more of a big up than what it is currently getting - this of course is all going to be helped by the All Whites making it to the World Cup - but one girl can not do it all alone.. ...and my colleague Michael Burgess is tvnz's resident NZ football guy.

BUT. Come the New Year. The tvnz.co.nz TalkFootball podcast has plans to bring NZ more on the A-League, NZFC and grassroots football.

We also welcome any thoughts, comments and suggestions from you lot, because at the end of the day, in a place like NZ, all us football nutters are in this together...!

I myself will hopefully be making it down to Wellington in the New Year to take in a couple of Phoenix games and see just what atmosphere you Yellow Fever fans have to offer...an would be more than happy to meet with you guys, although it will most probably be in a Liverpool top, not something skimpy...

Ha Ha. You've got to get yourself a Retro Ricki, Sarah.

The more people talking about football in the NZ media the better, as far as I'm concerned.

p.s. Always a bit worried when people use the "I know more than all of you stuck together" line though. Especailly around here!

Great stuff Sarah.   I noticed TVNZ have a 'latest phoenix news' section which none of the other network websites appear to have so big ups there.

I didn't mean that stuff about preferring brunettes either

You'll be right at home at a Phoenix game! Welcome

Great stuff RedInNZ and a warm welcome to Phoenix City when TVNZ scrapes together the few shekels it has for football so you can come down to see the Nix.

Now you do know about the 80 min rule when the Nix are winning don't you?

Gourdie - when can you be down?  Please wear something skimpy too...

Maybe a competition between the TV networks - whose breasts knows the most about football.

Well she is everything we need in a football reporter except I have to imagine her with a Tottenham Hotspurs top instead of the Liverpool one or else I have conflicting emotional issues. But honestly, Sarah, you are more football tough than most posters here. Anyway, welcome onboard, people such as yourself will bring the masses to the true football game.AllWhitebelievr2009-12-03 03:02:47

Errr. . . in the last ten minutes when the Phoenix are leading in the game, the fans take their tops off to cheer the guys onto victory. Its a Wellington Phoenix fan tradition. If that was between you and Gourdie then we all know who will win the competition between the networks. . . .AllWhitebelievr2009-12-02 19:37:33
