It would have been moot if we had of waited a week...seen that Nelsen was playing, then just not said anything...

Instead we made it an issue by saying that even Nelsen wasnt released we still wouldnt have been keen to release players to help out.

Bad move...ah well

Allegedly

sigh all these articles bagging the phoenix are petty and pathetic to say the least. people advocating the phoenix and NZF must work together should get real tbh, the phoenix are a far more creditable and solid entity than NZF in my eyes, and they have no reason to help those who have snubbed them so much already, these articles are just old football writers taking a chance to have yet another go at the phoenix.

o and midfielder, moot point, smeltz and lochhead have stated they understand

o and terminator, please get off your highhorse, all of these blogs about the decision were designed to get people like u to have a go at the phoenix, i don't know if they were aucklanders, but i can tell u with the attitude up here, the phoenix and NZF will never work together, also your claims are extremely unfounded.

I've generally stayed out of this, but I was disappointed by the decision.  For a club whose mission statement is to support and develop the game in New Zealand, it was an unnecessary media cycle.

At worst Lochhead might have been called, he is dominantly the best left back in the country and for the good of the game, and the profile of the game he should have been allowed.  Ignoring the fact that Nelson is now there, the club made a mistake in my view.

I perfectly understand where they want to be, but for a club that is pretty careful about it's media perception it was a needless way to give the media ammunition and the knockers in the game to have a swipe.  The Phoenix don't make many mistakes but this was a clanger.

Still, gone now, no point in re-litigating it.  Just hope they have noted the reaction and will be a little more circumspect in future.  Stoked we'll have Lochy and Smeltz ready to go.

When has NZF snubbed the Phoenix?  You are inventing controversy

Muso, the Phoenix and NZF are inextricably linked and have already worked together just to get the icence granted.  We share a coach and many players, NZF holds the A-League licence which is sub-licenced to Terry and NZF is part of our link to the FFA and is also the Phoenix's advocates with the OFC.  You are being just as short-sighted and divisive as the writers of these articles.

For football in this country to move forward the various entities need to put self-interest aside at times and work together, NZF, NZFC clubs and the Phoenix.  Let's hope Frank van Hattum can be that guy because unfortunately Mr Seatter never struck the balance.

It's not just about the Phoenix, a strong national team and federation will be great for the Phoenix, just as a strong Phoenix will be great for NZF.

Agreed. Well said HN and JD.

And muso - your post demonstrates zero understanding of football governance in NZ. The Phoenix and NZF must (and already do) work together for the good of football in NZ.

Now if you'll excuse me my high-horse needs feeding.
