Big respect for a quick apology and a dinunciation of violent
behaviour from the YF stand. the Fever have already built up
a great reputation for humour and passionate support which has
provided such a fantastic atmosphere before during and after
Phoenix games. However, there are certain aspects of the
baiting - booing officials and opposing teams, booing of Leo Bertos
(come on!), chants of get your tits out for the lads in front of
families at the Yellow Fever lounge two weekends ago at the sight
of a female ref's assistant, which I think degrades the people
targeted and the reputation of all Phoenix supporters.
There's the kind of good natured banter seen between Phoenix and
Aussie supporters witnessed at the Backbencher on Sunday, and the
kind of sexist tribalist thuggery that does not yet feature in New
Zealand sport, but is could obviously be just a moment away as I
have seen the last two weekends. We need to evolve our
concept of a supporter's stand as we go, just as Ricki tinkers with
the team. After all, this is about celebrating coming
together as a community and celebrating our team and city,
and those of the teams visiting. Having ranted all
that, I can speak for myself and friends new and old who come to
the game, and intend to keep coming, that you guys have built up
something truly memorable in Yellow Fever in a bloody short
time. I don't shred my vocal chords and laugh so much every
home game for nothing. Keep it up - but let's keep it
friendly.

A well thought out and written peice of reasoning. Will those whom
enjoy getting plastered, spilling beer, throwing bottles read and
change?
The proof will be in the pudding at our next home game.
Fingers crossed.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

good post neil.
i think there will be change. everyone is on notice and
everyone has spent some time this week defining some behavioural
norms which we as a group will find acceptable moving
forward.
it's been a tough but important week.

Thanks guys. It's encouraging to hear from others who are
obviously here to build something positive, fun and inclusive
for all. I too am hopeful that this wake up call will send us
in a better direction.
