OK, so for argument's sake, here are the FIFA rankings for these teams...

GROUP 1
Australia 35
Japan 38
Uzbekistan 58
Bahrain 72
Qatar 83

GROUP 2
South Korea 45
Iran 48
Saudi Arabia 54
UAE 95
North Korea 118

The top two from each group qualify for the World Cup Finals.  The two third-placed teams play off (home and away) for the right to play (probably) the All Whites (home and away) for a place at the World Cup.

So, based solely on rankings, it could be Uzbekistan or Saudi Arabia that stands between New Zealand and South Africa 2010.

New Zealand are ranked 88th by the way.

Not sure Japan are a very good side and kicked our arse in the Asian Cup, and Uzbekistan got to final 8 in the last WC.

There are  six teams fairly even fighting for the 4 spots and the play off I assume against you guys. I assume UAE, North Korea ,Qatar, Bahrain will not make it, but Bahrain are not to bad a side.

Can you imagine if we both make it, that would be a dream come true. Even better if Aust V NZ played in a world cup match against each other ......... I can see it now all the sheep jokes ...... lol I will have to stop one handed typing

Just had a ppeep at  Uzbekistan at home record in the last round: 3-0, 3-0 and 1-0, and one of the 3-0s was against Saudi Arabia.

Sooooooooo will not be easy as I said they made the last 8 in the 2006 WC.

Sorry you are right I had them confused with the Ukraine sorry for error blame Aussie beer or whiskey or wild wild women, Australia is going off forums talk by football people.

Man there is such a sense of our time has come ...... gee its hard to explain ......... but we have 8 WCQ matches of a real challenge, plus 2 Asian Cup Qualifiers. The China match in a dead rubber over 70, 000 on a very cold windy Sunday at 6:00 PM with the number four side on the park. More than the state of orgin.

Each home game will be sold out NSW, QLD & VIC governments are fighting for the matches and are paying big dollars to FFA to have home matches played there. Four 4 A-League spots 10 bids received. Womens league / Youth League/ P & R within 5 years I would say.

Plus I read teams are getting scared of the Nix's and say your guys are almost a cert for top four. Reports of 15, 000 plus crowds at the ROF.

Buffon is great to see it all happening ........... sorry about the error mate just a tad over excited. Man Japan and I hope in Sydney.

Its fired up  the football community.

Both Uzbekistan and Japan are very good sides. The other two sides in the groupare OK, but probably don't have enough depth to get to a top 2 spot. Will definitely take points off the big boys though.

Nothing wrong with it mate. I for one get Sunderland and Southampton confused all the time.

Midfielder how confident are you on a scale of 1 to 10 that you will qualify in the top two in your group? 1 being the lowest possible and 10 being as confident as Muhammad Ali.

Three for me, and two for them.

Yeah it's massive isn't it. Should be in SYD I'd say, unless its played at the MCG which I'd doubt (Telstra Dome isn't big enough), even though I'm biased and would much prefer it. Either way I think I should start saving for the air fares now...
