Is this the same guy that spend time with the Nix pre-season and playing in the Melbourne game in Queenstown?
Seems he is doing the biz at NZFC level, anyone know if the Phoenix are still looking at him? He'd be a shoe-in for a youth/reserve team at least surely?

Oh yeah. And I suppose either of them would be an import spot which will make it hard for them to be picked up anywhere

Soromon must be close to being eligible for citizenship now. How many seasons has he been at Wairarapa United?? Im sure it's 3...maybe it's just 2

hes all class. we've seen him for 2 good seasons dominate and help united win a lot of games they shouldn't have. get him in the camp for a few games i say.

I watched Suele Soromon in the world cup qualifiers in 2007/08 and he was devastating in the prelims but went off the boil in the second group stage. His goalscoring record in the nzfc is remarkable and he appears to be one of these players that can drift out of a match and appear to be doing nothing before popping up out of nowhere to put the ball in the net.

So already played international football at senior level an dnot eligible for NZ? i think all of thos esolomon players are the same even though they are only just out of high school.

I guess a no brainer for the Oceania 11 if it happens (although I'd like to see more evidence that it will).

I know Seule Soromon personally and have played social football with him regularly in the Wairarapa. He's amazing. Unfortunately Seule is not the kind of guy who will make things happen for himself. His English isnt great and he lacks the skills and an understanding of the sports industry to take advantage of opportunities that arise. Basically, he needs someone to hold his hand, thats what Phil Keinzley did for him at Wairarapa United (it was Phil who did the work to get him to NZ in the first place) and in my opinion, Phil held onto him for Wai Utd's benefit rather than supporting and helping Seule to make the most of all the opportunities that came his way. Rumour has it that Seule turned down a contract with Gold Coast United in 2008 because he wanted to play for the Phoenix and likes NZ and didnt want to leave it. Also because he 'liked his day job', although he dreams of playing football professionally. I dont know how much truth there is to that, but i do know at a personal level that Seule isnt the sharpest tool in the shed. He needs someone with incredible contacts to 'look after him' and show him the way....and soon, otherwise he will be lost like so many talented players out there. bronynz2010-01-07 15:38:05

Gold Coast were not around in 2008.
He is a great player and would really be worth at least a trial.
I am sure he must be eligible to apply for NZ citizenship by now so that he would not take a foreign spot.

Apologies, obviously it wasnt Gold Coast then, but one of the Australian A-league teams. Couldve sworn it was Gold Coast floating around the rumour mill though, maybe im wrong about the year??

He was contacted by GCU management in 2008. He was targeted to be in the 2009-10 squad by their coach and had talks with them. However he was one of many players targeted by them in 2008.

Any reason known why he did not make it?

Pretty sure the 2008 GCU was pre-Clive Palmer and was the Gold Coast Galaxy bid, not Gold Coast United.

It was the same coach, nevertheless wasn't it??

Actually they were late 2008 from memory. It must have been before October 2008 they approached Smeltz.
