Socceroos defender Jade North is expected to be announced as new A-League club North Queenslands marquee signing.
The Newcastle Jets captain has reportedly been offered a lucrative deal which may see him complete his career in Australia after recently pursuing a European move.
Although the marquee player deal has not been confirmed by the club, North Queensland chairman Don Matheson did reveal that an announcement would be made some time this week.
Speaking to the Herald, Matheson said, Jades always been on our radar whether he would fill the marquee player (berth) is not something weve decide on or whether hed fit in as a normal squad player.
If I said it was him, it would take the guts out of the announcement, and if I said no, it would make us feel a little uncomfortable in regards to the marquee player that we are talking to.
Weve sent the contract down for the (marquee player) to sign. We would anticipate that will be back in the next few days and obviously once thats done, that will be our first announcement
Speculation regarding players moving to North Queensland continues to grow as the new franchise looks to build a competitive squad.
Along with Jade North who will reportedly sign with the club this week, Sydney midfielder Robbie Middleby has already signed a deal whilst Perth defender Nikolai Topor-Stanley remains a key target.
Wayne Srhoj who recently returned to Australia after a stint playing in Romania, is believed to have committed to North Queensland although he penned a deal with Perth last month and current Leicester City goalkeeper Paul Hendersons name has also been thrown around.
Newcastle Jets defender Adam Griffiths is on his way to Gold Coast United.
The Gold Coast Bulletin says the Australia international has signed a two-year contract with the new A-League franchise.
Jets teammate Daniel Piorkowski is also understood to have agreed on a move to Skilled Park for next season.
"I can't confirm any signings of current A-league players because it's not fair to them," said coach Miron Bleiberg.
"I want to let them concentrate on their own seasons and not have any undue pressure placed on them. If I want them to succeed and justify my signing them, why do I have to make them look bad (by revealing their identities)."
