- Nix - 1.) there is an excellent feature by John
Matheson on Smeltzy, his season and nomination for footballer of
the year 2.) a very perceptive article by Matheson previewing the
Roar game and making the point that while the reality is the Nix
have head and shoulders above the Knights in every respect,
uninformed perceptions will be heavily shaped by where they end on
the table (with the prospect of last being rekindled by Perth's
revival). 3.) Sam Malcolmsn in his column asks, given the Nix
problems at the back, where all NZ's centre backs have gone?
- NZ footy - 1.) Gavin Earley has a nice feature on Danny Hay,
in which he talks to Hay about a career that has taken him to the
Nou Camp in front of 100,000 on the Champs league to Fred Taylor in
front of 500 in the NZFC. I liked it. 2.) Earley also reports on
Auckland City's 2-0 win over HBU yesterday in the NZFC.
- International - none
Overall, - a stellar effort this week from the Sunday News,
perhaps the best performance by any Sunday newspaper this year.
Bravo - a benchmark for the rest of the sports media. If the Sunday
News is going to keep up this form it is an absolute must buy for
all football fans. Well done to both Matheson and Earley.

- NZ footy - 1.) This week's highlight, a feature on Andy
Boyens (covers form for the AW and first season in the MLS). 2.) a
match report from the Auckland City win yesterday.
Overall, an improvement from the Herald on Sunday and a pretty
decent effort overall, with a healthy dose of domestic football.

Sunday Star Times

- Nix - a very brief mention of tonight's Roar game within
another column. Disappointing
- NZ footy - 1.) a good match report from Auckland v HBU game
by Billy Harris 2.) Gary Birkett looks at Ryan Nelsen's continued
AW absence 3.) Billy Harris' column on throw ins is just too
obscure for me this week. Strange.
- Intl - a feature on Ferguson, an article on Mark Hughes
(which does mention Nelson) and a brief mention of Rooney's injury.
WHile the quantity was positive, it was all foreign-sourced (ie
from Reuters or London's Sunday Times) and it only begs teh
question further, if you can find all that space how can you not
give the Nix reasonable coverage?
I couldnt find any of the links on Stuff - although they may
be there somewhere
Overall, not good. A decent NZFC report and article on Nelsen
let down by only passing and buried mention of the Nix (remember
the SST is the primary Wellington Sunday newspaper) and a Billy
Harris column that was, Im afraid, just far too random this time.
