Thankfully, $10 entry charge for Kiwis and the truckload of beer consumed helped to soften the pain somewhat and the fact the Sydney team has a load of class and the hospitality of the home fans also lightened the burden from such a weak defensive effort! I wonder what the score mightve been if we didnt have our Captain there??
The point of this rant though, concerns the Sydney FC officials and the arrogant contempt that they offer the away fans that are prepared to visit the Emerald City and the SFS
Did anyone notice the provocative giant promotional shirts jammed in with the away end fans? Is this the first time its happened or is it a regular event?
While the 35 or so of us that were there were mature and intelligent enough to realise the crap position and pressure that this arrogance places on the support and venue security staff, who is to say that this level of wisdom will carry over to away Victory or Roar fans that be there in greater numbers and less dignified than a few international travellers, who had smiles in their hearts. Lighters in hand more likely!
My English friends were particularly incensed at these actions and the potential for trouble because of it. They know what this sort of stupidity would incite there!
In discussing this with the venue staff, they explained that they also felt that this wasnt a particularly endearing decision by the club and graciously provided us with the contact details for the major players for the event and the club to air our grievances with directly.
When we did this, the club politely told us it wasnt an issue they were interested in. Luckily, the NSW Police could see the point of the complaint when raised with them.
Maybe the powers that be at Yellow Fever have contacts with the rest of the club fan representatives and might like to raise the issue with Sydney FC directly if they encounter similar provocation? Maybe the FFA would like to take this up as there is reasonable potential for negative attention to come to the game when a larger group of visitors decide to match the STUPIDITY of the Sydney FC officials.
Hopefully Dave Mason will understand this before it becomes negative headlines
1) The away end is mostly empty with the exception of Victory visits - but that corner is in a prime tv coverage spot - so rather than have empty seats - the club have gone for adding a bit of colour by putting the shirts in.
2) In previous games where Victory have visited - there has been a bit of grief between fans either side of the tunnel - esp when the SCC based themselves in the corner for a while - I think they've added the shirts as a spacer so that away supporters in the south stand weren't so close to the east stand.
When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

The away end is only one Bay behind the goal anyway, the rest it sydney fan space. http://sydneyfc.com/site/_content/document/00000247-source.pdf
It was a little cheeky of them and I did raise it on the SFCU forum. Its just sponsors doing it.
The shirts are pretty impressive though, better quality than our old one.Stefan2009-11-03 21:39:02
I noticed you guys "inching" your way closer & closer to them on game day.
