Hello there.

I have recently cobbled together an anthology of my more durable columns published in Waikato football programmes over the past 21 years.

It is entitled The Waikato Chronicles and includes columns from Waikato United, Melville United and Waikato FC programmes, as well as a smattering of fanzine and other fringe-publication articles from 1991-2011.

There are about 200-odd columns reflecting on Waikato football, the northern and national league, and the general state of the game in NZ during this period.

Because of its daunting size (463 crown quarto pages) it is doubtful any more than the original two copies will be physically printed it costs an arm and a leg - but I am planning to convert it into e-book format at some point.

However because few people have e-book readers here at the final frontier and it is a specialist topic - I am also distributing this manuscript in PDF format to those interested.

The cost is $10. Anyone wishing to have a PDF of The Waikato Chronicles emailed to them should contact me at the following address.

For anyone looking for a sample of the subject matter, there is a link which has been previously publicised here, of a column detailing Waikato Uniteds final outing in the national league in 1996.

Hope this is the right place to publicise these things. Its sort of like an old fashioned blog, you know.

Boat drinks, bruce.

This makes for a hard case read with the comments about players not turning up and if they did they were hung over or stoned, sounds like good times.......

I ordered a copy of this book a fortnight ago and would recommend it to anyone interested in football, not just to those from the Waikato.

What an incredible span of work across more than two decades. It was informative, funny, and passionate. A great read. Bruce, if you are reading this, well done.

I too ordered a copy of this and am loving it. For anyone interested, I have written a review of the anthology for my blog here: http://in-the-back-of-the.net/2012/02/06/waikato-chronicles/Enzo Giordani2012-02-06 19:56:01

I was a late convert, but found this to be a surprisingly entertaining book. Some great ideas, and provocative and funny. After reading it I was wondering if there any any other such publications like this out there about Kiwi club football from a fan's view. Can anyone recommend anything else?.

After purchasing it ages ago, I've finally gotten around to reading it, mainly so I can read up on my Waikato history now that I've immersed myself in Waikato football more over the past two years.

I just thought I should come here to highly recommend it - whether you're young like me and want some knowledge and hindsight-driven laughs (everything about the Edge's is always a good read), or whether you're older and want to remember the old times, it's a great compilation of great writing.

It also has about 500 one-liners which I desperately want to steal, if only it weren't so obvious....

Tks, N Bomb... Ha. anything that is not nailed to the floor is fair game... Given some of the good stuff is now over 20 years old hardly anyone would notice these days.... It might just be me, but football seemed so much funnier back then.

OBLIGATORY AD: Electronic copies of The Waikato Chronicles (emailed PDF, 420-plus pages) can be purchased for $10. Email HERE for details, or visit the homepage of www.waikatofootballprogrammes.weebly.com
