"September's tsunami was bad news in more ways than one for Pacific nations Samoa, Tonga and America Samoa.  As well as the destruction and heartbreak they have had to come to terms with, their women's under-20 soccer teams face an even bigger hurdle when the Oceania Championship kicks off at North Harbour Stadium today" .   Terry Maddaford, NZ Herald

Maybe I'm just too sensitive but I think Mr Maddaford has really outdone himself this time.  To say that their women's under-20 soccer teams face an even bigger hurdle than the Seprember Tsunamis is downright disrespectful........it's "football" Mr Maddaford, "football", not "soccer".  Whilst on the subject of the Women's Under 20's, it is NOT a bigger hurdle to face than the Pacific Tsunamis, that is just plain stupid Mr Maddaford.

Although I have no time for Terry Maddaford, I think what he is trying to say is that the tsunami has made a tough job even tougher in terms of buildup, stress etc. Don't think he is trying to compare the two, I think its just incredibly poorly written.

Out of touch, out of date and well past his use by date, hanging around for that free drink here, meal ticket there and ANY sport's award invitation dinners. Wish he would just piss off as he's an embarrassment to all sport, particularly our game in general.

Have you got anyone else in mind? For many years I have disagreed with lots of things that TM has written, but he has seen a lot more of football than many of his critics.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Here lies OUR problem
Terry and 'general sport's writers' like him write article firstly, to appease their oval ball loving editor, secondly to promote themselves, leaving our game as a send rate page filer. Until we get a pro football editor involved in our daily rags the situation will never change. $$$$$$$
Maddaford over the years has had many opportunities to write positive articles promoting our game in independent publications. Unfortunately, he has always written on behalf of those writing the largest cheques. He should piss off to America where his kind are well and truly nurtured.
