Thats not a silly idea
They're just crap. Not interested in anything south of
Auckland, Veitch is a smug git and they just don't know how to
cover sport. The Paul Holmes arse licking society would be a
better description. Haven't watched one news for about eight
years personally. And don't get me started on Paul
Henry...
i listen to Veitch every morning as I'm a rep on the road and his coverage is not as anti-Phoenix as you think. Sure in the beginning he was skeptical but then so was every media outlet in the country and that was the folly/fallout from the Auckland based team. He is a lot more positive after seeing the first couple of games and that this isn't just another go-around, Mark Sorenson and Stu Scott give them a big rap usually about 8:40ish on a Monday.
Veitch has come around and even Telf gives them a nod. I hear Doug Go-lightly and Man in the Stand on a Satmorning usually give them a nod but Doug is more the smug git variety nod and a rugby headed t**ser than Veitch. The only person that admits they don't know about football and doesn't hide from admitting it is Darcy Waldergrave and he is the best host of all of them.
Good coverage on The Crowd Goes Wild (Prime 7pm) - both Andrew Mulligan and Mark Richardson finished by saying "Go the Phoenix, go the boys and go Wellington"......
Watch "World of Football" on Sky Sport 2 tonight at
8:30pm.
Incidentally folks, seeing as it now appears TV1 covered the match and showed the goals in lasts nights news, perhaps we could all give them a bit of an apology ?
I'm no fan, but if it is true that they are showing the All Whites matches and the Beckham game on free to air we owe them a pretty big gratitude.
I couldn't tell you the last time TV3 had local FTA football, but TVNZ certainly have in recent years, some delayed, but also some live.
I think you caught in the crossfire of my having a look in the
English forum to see pretty much every rule being ignored and 4
threads on QPR on the front page.
Why ? Do news shows regularly cover a sports event one night and then show the same footage the next (unless it's Rugby ?). I must have missed that.
we owe them SFA, you'll be asking us to send them flowers for saying Phoenix once a month.
It should have been on tonights 6pm
news,
So, okay then, by your logic we'll call them t**sers for covering the game, morons for having the All Whites announcement, w**kers for showing the all whites qualifiers and bastards for Free to air coverage of Beckham ?
Yep, let's get stuck in to them.
I'm all for kicking them if they have screwed the game but from what I can see they haven't in this case.
Hard News2007-10-02 00:28:43
...I'm sure they will appreciate your follow up email saying sorry.
Except if you read carefully you will find they did in fact show
the game, Sunday night. When it was current news...
I carefully read the TV guide produced by the Dominion, and if you
read it carefully also you will see there is no mention of any news
after 6pm for Sunday the 30th. I'm sure you will be getting in
contact with TVNZ to point out their lack of co-ordination with the
Dominion re program advertising. I'm sure they wil appreciate your
help.
You know that doesn't make one word of sense, or have any connection that I can see to what's being talked about here, don't you ?
Just asking.
Ok I will try to make sense of it for you,if you look at a tv guide
to see what time the news is on and it makes no mention of any news
being on after 6pm is it a reasonable assumption that there wont be
a news on.?
TVNZ and TV3 have had 6 o'clock news every night for between 20 and 40 years... can't believe you would need to check the TV guide to see if they have news on... oh well, each to his own.
So we're saying that TV1 did cover it on their news? That TV1 are
showing both of the October All Whites WC qualifying matches
(albeit only one live)? That TV1 are showing the Galaxy game (is
this confirmed)?
Err, we just basically love to bitch and moan; reasons are very much secondary to this primal instinct
And a big segment on a League final that no one really cares about? What a load of bollocks.
Lost all respect for TV one's Sport coverage. Nothing at all on the
Phoenix. Zilch. And they had the nerve to tout Germany's Women's
World Cup win, but not the Phoenix?
according to my research, mirams has now left tvnz

CHANTING- "TV 1s so sh*t its unbelievable!"
Ie. TV1 v local newspaper and radio.
One wonders what the hell TVNZ is on, if reports that they had ZERO Phoenix coverage today are correct. I wouldn't know due to my self-imposed TV1 sports news ban. Their football news is pathetic, but come on. They're quick to show stories when the Nix havent had a great result, but in the interests of sport how can they not even mention the historic first home win. It's nothing short of a disgrace.
It brings me to another topic, the pathetic way TV news run copious and far-fetched "news value" stories on sports they have the rights to. ie. tv3 and their continual RWC, endless rallying etc and TV1 and yachting and netball.
What about a fair go for sports people actually care about.
Anyway, at least the media that counts for Wellington, the Dom and Newstalk ZB, are in behind it and give their readers/listeners the coverage they deserve.
Shame on TV1.

Ok, here's the game plan.
1) We watch TV 3 news and sport AND weather now that Brendon
got the boot. (Some of us already do this but flick to TV1 to see
any footie highlights.
2) We send polite thank you e-mails to TV3 for their excellent
coverage and accidently mention that we are boycotting TV1 News and
that TV3 should use this for their own publicity purposes - "TV3 -
The football fans station".
3) We e-mail Radio NZ Sports & NewstalkZB & ZMFM
informing them of how the coverage they give the Phoenix is greatly
appreciated and a positive for football fans around the
country.
4) We send polite Emails to Prime & Sky sports thanking
them for the excellent coverage they are giving the Phoenix and
that it is appreciated and encouraging for football fans, unlike a
competiter who feels the Phoenix are not worthy.
5) We can also mention to Prime that word is spreading via the
message boards about Prime's promotion of the Phoenix has got
a lot of fans watching their channel - especially their news (Which
I also watch) which is on at 5:30pm.
6) We also need to give a BIG thank you via mail, e-mail &
Talkback radio to the Dominion Post for the their fair and
encouraging coverage. It's not all pro Phoenix which is something I
would not like to see. But it is factual, it is acurate and there
is a lot of coverage in the paper. They have been brilliant! (We
could also let slip about the TV1 News boycott.)
What do you all reckon? It's a positive campaign with a minor
negative dig at only one media outlet. Lots of positives for
everyone else!
Sounds like a great plan to me Lonegunmen. I think it's important
we recognise both the good and bad jobs media outlets are doing. If
we don't give feedback to the good ones, they won't know their
stuff is being well received. I just think TV1 is a lost cause
either way. It'll take a miracle.
Sadly it gets worse....Sneak preview of what's coming up.....The advertising 'branding' that TVNZ's sports department have submitted to the 'chiefs' for the upcoming All Whites qualifying campaign...
c**ts.

Sheesh, you guys are getting a little worked up over this aren't
you? Everyone knows that if you want to watch football on the
telly, it aint on the news. We watch Sky Sports which gives
us more football than any other country I reckon.
Simple as that.
i listen to Veitch every morning as I'm a rep on the road and his coverage is not as anti-Phoenix as you think. 2) would the person whom changed my thread title please own
up. There was nothing wrong with the initial title and as it wasn't
offensive to anyone, it would have been appreciated if you had
asked me first. It contained nothing negative, abusive, rude,
profane etc etc. but what you have done is make appear in a
different context than intended by myself.
No, but it is the 6 millionth thread on this subject and has spread
to being not just about TV3.
A search to find one of the others would save space and hopefully stop people re-litigating points covered in detail in the past. That is why we have asked people to do so in the guidelines.
I will make it less facetious (I think if you check the initial post it will tell you who edited the title).
I draw your attention to the first point in the Rules:

To be fair on TV1 Sports, I recorded it while I attended the Glory
game, I watched it after the game & they showed all 5
goals. So the coverage was pretty up to date because it was
showed with only about 10mins of the game remaining down at the
Ring Of Fire. But I do know what you guys mean about TV1
(JAFA) arrogance towards Wellington sports in general.
It would have been nice to receive a message that you were going to
edit my post. My thread was created after watching the TV3 sport
news & TV1 sports news tonight.
After the awesome coverage in todays Dom Post, doing a thread
such as this is relevent. I see your point in the original title I
gave, but it was meant more as a compliment to the media with the
exception of one. Where as, the adjusted title read like I was
soley moaning about the performance of the one. I hope you see my
POV? Thanks for changing it to something else -
appreciated.
I hope that my "Plan of Action" may achieve a positive
response amongst the media. Most of whom who have been very kind
and considerate towards the club and it's fans.
Again, Your points and explanation are noted and
appreciated.

Good coverage on The Crowd Goes Wild (Prime 7pm) - both Andrew Mulligan and Mark Richardson finished by saying "Go the Phoenix, go the boys and go Wellington"......
TVNZ has a page for filing complaints,
if you check out their web page it is located at the bottom
somewhere, it isn't easy to find but I found it and made a
complaint about the news. maybe if we ALL get stuck into them they
might take notice, Go the Phoenix and TCGW thanks.

Totally cleared that up...
This may sound a bit radical but with over three thousand
members all net savy.
Why not each time media coverage is non existance, bias, send
them emaiils from everybody.
Can you imagne 3 to 7 thousand emails going to there News,
Sports, Editorial departments. They would realise soon enough
people want a fair and balanced coverage.
Also email the government, for heavens sake their in Wellie,
get a group up to call on the pollies.
Essentially make some noise we have the net skills
over three thousand members net savy.
Any one else agree and if so how do we start.
You're onto it

The only coverage I saw was at 8:30am on Good Morning, they showed
the 1st and 4th goals only and then Paul Henry tried to get stuck
into the Phoenix again But Pippa & their sports
reporter stood up for us! Henry back tracked slightly.
I must've missed the Sunday Night effort but I was channel
swappping. TV3 did us proud.
You'd have missed Sunday night as you were at the game wouldn't you
?
Those watching said they had the goals covered on Sunday's 6:00 pm news.

Erm, what are we complaining about again?
Doh & Damn! I'm tired after living on here! and 5:30am starts
at work don't help.
The game finished at 6:50pm so they would have missed the
players at the finish. You could see the relief on their faces and
they could see it on ours!

I've saw it on Tv1, what bulletin wwere you watching?
Also, Tv1 sports coverage isn't as big as tv3s cause of their
audience. You'll notice they have a longer weather segment.

I'm sorry....you're going to have to explain that first bit -
why would TV1's sports news be shorter because of their
audience?
TV3 attract the simple folk (hence this thread and its length) so
plenty of celebrity stories and 'Scandal-ness'
Anyone wanting to see football on the news in this country
should be used to being disappointed. I honestly can't
believe some of the posts in this thread of boycott and group
emails. Its all a bit embarassing.
Dear TV One....Just saw your coverage on the Phoenix match
tonight's news.THANKS VERY MUCH for showing a nice piece of
footage of Sasha Petrovski's late goal with accompanying story
...(he plays for Central Coast Mariners by the way, they are one of
the A League teams and they are based on the Central Coast... in
AUSTRALIA, okay?)
As the newly-anointed favourite Football TV Broadcaster in New Zealand..you are showing the L.A.Galaxy/Beckham game live and free-to-air, after all.. we would REALLY welcome some supportive coverage of our beautiful game...for instance, you could have shown the superb first up goal scored by Ahmad Elrich...(now HE is the recently signed marquee player, playing for Wellington Phoenix..that's Wellington, NEW ZEALAND.. where we are,and you are. (I hope)
Just a little more support for our New Zealand A-League team and Football in general would be very welcome.
Anyway I'm sure that Tony Veitch is really quite a decent chap and would CERTAINLY be welcome Aisle 21, Westpac Stadium for any Wellington Phoenix home game...
...just a thought.

I can't believe they didnt show the Elrich goal! that is goal of
the season so far- cringe. some things never change
Leitch stated quote of the season for me.
"Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert is angry with his defence
after......"
No sh*t, did Leitch expect Ricki to be all smiles and happy? A
nice negative promo of the nix and as said Elrich's awesome strike
was completely ignored.
They showed the Elrich goal on sunday night. Didn`t show the last
goal as the game finished to late. So they chose to show it last
night.
