TV Ratings - Phoenix or Breakers?

Who do you think has the higher ratings?

Having an argument with Crowd Goes Wild host Andrew Mulligan on Twitter and he reckons Breakers are higher. Made a comment based on SKY promoting the A-League and they should be promoting NBL instead. His reason is the flawed Nielsen TV Ratings which has a sample of 500 homes.

If we bought the best players in the league while nearly every other side in the league (and the league) collapsed we'd be run away winners and have a 'huge' audience as well.

In the grand scheme of things, who cares?

I replied to him also - said something to the effect of how about embracing both sports instead of trying to start a childish code war..

It's just because he commentates breakers games ffs

I had never even seen his "passion" for basketball before he started commentating them anyway.

Lets face it the Breakers bandwagon is matched only by the Warriors'

Nah he's always loved basketball. Bit of an American sports geek I believe.

Fair enough then. I do find watching the Breakers a bit like watching lower grade extreme sports - no one can really do anything.

Edit: But I suppose I'm just as bad as the Phoenix haters.20 legend2011-03-02 00:22:16

The most recent breakers game rated ever so slightly higher than the Nix Adelaide playoff. Just though.

and that was a Regular Breakers game vs playoff nix game.

Stands to reason that a regular Breakers game would rate a lot higher than a regular nix game then.

Question re the ratings.Do the Breakers games still go free-to-air live on the Maori channel as well as Sky  and if so,  is it a fair comparison? The Nix games have no free-to-air outlet.

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

And was the Breakers game at home?

Plus are these ratings taken from the Nielsen rating system which has a sample of just 500 homes mostly in Auckland?

Have never really understood the attraction of b'ball (played both sports as a yoof). 10 sweaty men bouncing their ball on a small court.   Doesn't give me much joy as a spectator.

Whiff Whaff on the other hand is great as a spectator sport.

Football is just 22 sweaty men kicking a ball on grass.

I don't listen/see much sports on radio/tv (no sky and only watch Nix away games and occasional other A-League or Spurs/Toon games on the net).

But I reckon the Piney & Chotey show is the best commentating this side of somewhere very far away.

QFT.

Basketball.  Squeak, squeak, score, bore.  Repeat 100 times.  But best of luck Breakers, would be quite  to finally see a NZ team win an Aussie comp.

This forum is such a joke. Whenever someone says anything even slightly against the Phoenix or football everyone turns on them and attacks.

Everyone?

This forum has 6,000 members and maybe 10 have 'attacked'.

It's a football forum, there is a reasonable chance that some football fans won't enjoy another sport.  Based on the Halberg uproar there are thousands of Rugby fans that way inclined.

IMO the uproar from the Halberg's made some sense, not that I agree with it.

But people dissing on basketball because Mulligan says they get higher ratings? So what if they do? Doesn't mean the sport is rubbish.

Back on topic, how many of those people watching the Breakers are actually just fans of highly lacquered dark wood parquet flooring?

The biggest problem with basketball is what happens when a couple of guys, who are up to no good, start making trouble in your neighbourhood. You don't even want to know what happens if you get into one little fight.

No, the sport itself does.
