Seems other codes have been hit hard to by the visa policy.

I'm not so upset now. Provided the policy is applied to all sports then I think the gov actions are justifyable.

that is reassuring, although doestn explain why the Netball President was allowed in and the goalie not. the rules are a dog's breakfast and need to be rewritten at teh very least. unfortnately nobody wants to admit their was a balls up when they were written. And there is still the question of compensation for NZF as per the NZ Cricket zimbabwe precedent.

i forgot i was moving on ...

Theyll still be allowed here fr the tournament id say..

<i> New Zealand officials say the refusal this time to grant transit visas does not apply to the Wellington Sevens in February.</i>

<i>"This is separate to the Fiji Sevens' plans to attend the Wellington leg of the IRB Sevens in February 2007." </i>

<i>Ms Haines said exemptions to the sporting ban only apply to multilateral sporting tournaments, hosted by New Zealand, when the New Zealand host sporting body does not have control over the selection of participants.</i>

<i> "The team has made a formal approach to the Department to request entry to New Zealand for this event. This decision will be made by the appropriate Ministers." </i>

These are the key points i think...I find the timing funny that this  happened to be announced, after everything in the weekend...I will reserve my judgement until the actual sevens tournament.

Allegedly

"

Green Party MP Keith Locke said letting a Fijian minister into the country, while rigorously applying sanctions to sports people, smacked of double standards.

He called for a review of the sanctions to clarify who could come to New Zealand.

"There needs to be a review on how they are applied, at least," Locke said.

"It strikes at people much more distant from the regime and doesn't strike at those at the heart. There should be a bit more consistency."

Keith Locke - For once I have to admit I fully agree with you! And that is a First! (Not New Zealand First either!)

This development actually confirms this visa fiasco is worse than we thought

good on Locke for pointing out what is plainly obvious, but which the Government stubbornly refuses to admit.
