Actually I think the Herald has been giving good coverage of the Nix and NZ football since the world cup (maybe even before that).

Such a shame our local tabloid has become so sh!tty since the end of last season. I wonder what the Nix/Terry/NZF has done to piss the editor off.


Footpaul any ideas? (conspiracy theories already noted)

A shame you can't - but it is clear that the Herald has lifted its game (including contributions from your good self), while the DomPost has noticeably scaled back it's coverage.

Sam W does a good job, but the likes of Kitschin, Daft Burgess and the editor (who ultimately decides) suggest quite a negative attitude. It really would be good to know what has lead to this (if only to make me despise the paper even more).

I'll have to agree with you - the Herald is doing a great job on football (still called soccer though!), although I of course cannot take any credit. I'm on the online section and I haven't actually met the sports guys from the print department, but they are doing a fantastic job. I think it is particularly impressive how they cover the Nix, considering they are a Wellington team, and the Herald is in reality an Auckland/upper North Island paper.

I cannot comment on the Dom Post, as I don't get it, but I always thought the Waikato Times covered football okay (also Fairfax and getting most of its copy from the Dom Post and the Press).

As for writing football stories myself, it's not really my round, but I felt compelled to write a few last week because I felt there was too little being written ahead of the All Whites games. In all fairness most of the attention from sports writers of late have gone to the Commonwealth Games. Now with most of the rugby, league and other sports out of the way, hopefully we'll see a heap more written on the Nix in the coming months. If not, I'm more than happy to! (Hopefully work will send me down to Welly to cover some Nix games!)

How much more is a Herald subscription in Wellington than Dom Post?

It should be remembered the Herald completely ignored the Phoenix last season and have only jumped on the bandwagon this season. So the Dom had a week off Nix in the tabloid...can hardly slam them for that. It's a 30-round season and there are only so many Nix stories you can do.

i don't know what's happened in recent weeks but apparently the nix only had one media session this week on friday evening so it's kinda hard to expect daily coverage. whatever your take on the whole dom/terry thing, they do a pretty good job covering the nix i reckon, as do most written and radio media. it must be hard to sell to editors in week eight or nine when i'm sure we all agree the comp doesn't even start until round 20.

People thought I was a conspiracy theorist when I suggested that the DomPost's pursuit of Terry wasn't just "smug tycoon needs to be taken down a peg or two", it was "poof-ball supporters need to be taken down a peg or two". BUT WHO'S LAUGHING NOW?!?

Doloras, your are surely having a laugh??!!! If not, you've got NO idea what you are talking about. As far as the amount of football coverage goes, name a better daily paper in NZ than the Dom?
