Well, we have an A-league team, going for a youth team based in OZ, what about a women's team? We do want them to get strong competition at a higher level. Why or why not? Our women national team is higher ranked the mens and some of the ladies want exposure and hopefully land a US contract where the real money are. It will bring more fans to club and increase and promote women football. They are our future football mothers. We need to educate the fairer sex in the ways of the football.

Discuss.

Are we getting too ahead of ourselves with talk of other teams?? Maybe in a few seasons or so, there's no denying there are some fairly decent NZ Women footballers out there.. but do you think professional womens football would fly?

I think we should wait until the FFA introduces a womans squad to each A-league team first.

and at the very least, they can get a womens cheer leading team together to entertain the fans first, because I doubt the football would be worth watching (joking)

FFA doing a National Women league as well as the new youth league. They were announced together by the FFA.

I like the idea, but its a lot more cost in our only club second season in the A-League. If we get a footing with the youth league. A women team would establish us as a serious all round club.

It wasn't too long ago that it was suggested to scarp our own women league before as a consequence of the NZF financial crisis. Do we want our top female footballer exposed to the threat in losing the league. We nearly lost the youth league, if there wasn't someone bailing us out from Manakau.

Ahead of ourselves? If we have the resources, I say strike while the iron is hot, the early the women get the experience, the better for the key players in football ferns and the youth football ferns.

The outlook for the Australian women league is potentially big in women's football terms. There are fewer fully fledged professional womens leagues around the world when you compare to men's football. I know that really women football would never overtake men's football but we have a huge slice of the supporters and the most women football players totally support the fans and supporter of the men's football. Us guys sometime forget that there are mothers and wives that support the guys in our games and that they personally like to kick the ball around themselves but there is a lack of activity in the club teams and girl support is weak. By feeding an elite club incentive to the females we are basically secure greater support scope for football's future for both genders.

Compare to the main female sports in NZ, it has a better participation future and for view. Not many guys play netball but some guys do watch. Not many girls would like to be involved in contact rugby but would play touch. Only football, Grass Hockey and Basketball has the appeal from both genders and have reasonable standings as a team sport in NZ. We need to showcase our women footballer and show the appeal for the young girls. I think we need to capitalise on the women's youth world cup that is coming to NZ this year.

Taking a good shot now would be easy than later if possible.

I'd love to see it happen and think it should be a high priority...for NZ Football. WPFC has to worry about the Phoenix and hopefully the Canberra side first, since our main aim should be to field a competitive, and hopefully champion, senior squad. A woman's team won't help us in that respect.

That being said, I reckon it would be a great idea in order to help develop our woman footballers and encourage more girls to take up the sport. I'd love to see a squad of NZers compete in a Women's A-League under the Phoenix banner, but I feel the incentive is mostly NZF's, who needless to say aren't in the best spot right now...
