The Wellington Lacrosse Association will be hosting the 1st Annual
Wellington Lacrosse Open this weekend at Rongotai College. The
Wellington Swarm (senior mens representative team) will be playing
against Auckland on both days, as well as mixed gender games,
women's lacrosse matches, and an exhibition match involving the New
Zealand National Women's Lacrosse Team (the Blax). We've got people
down from Auckland and up from Christchurch for this, and everyone
involved has worked really hard so be sure to come down and cheer
for the Swarm. '
This open will involve the first ever lacrosse matches held in Wellington, so feel free to join in and become a part of history. The Swarm have a 2-1 record with wins over East Auckland and Waikato-Papakura at last years Auckland tournament, and our womens team features New Zealand representatives. We're also looking to recruit new players to give it a go, who knows, you might enjoy it!
Admission is free! And at least two yellow fever members play for the Swarm (including myself) so come down and support us at least
For more information, visit http://lacrosse.wellington.net.nz or feel free to PM me.

Just across the road. Might come. If I do, I expect someone to at
least lose an eye.

We've got protective gear to stop that happening these days, but if
you bring along Winston Peters, we might be able to arrange
something

Unfortunately, if I did know Winston Peters, I would get first dibs
on harming his person.

The Open starts at 10am today (Saturday)...GET INTO IT!
Bring some money too, there's gonna be a BBQ and a raffle with great prizes such as a gym membership to Les Mills, as well as the chance to buy lacrosse gear in person (normally you have to order over the internet, bit of a hassle/expense)

(Note - Auckland refers to a unified rep team from Auckland, who
actually field several different clubs)
Wellington's Mixed Gender team lost against a Auckland Mixed Gender team, I think the score was 4-7 but don't hold me to that.
I think our womens team lost to Auckland as well, I got their late due to a minor emergency so missed that match.
The senior men's match, being the first ever Swarm home game, saw Wellington beat Auckland in a thrilling 12-11 victory that went right down to the final minute.
FTR such scores aren't out of the ordinary in lacrosse, it's a high scoring game compared to football.
Tomorrow is going to be huge, with the Swarm/Auckland rematch at 1530, so if you can make it, we'd love to have you cheering us on.
"Lax" is the shortened form of the word Lacrosse, ie footy - football. Typical NZ sports name involving the colours black or ferns + Lax = Blax. The men's team don't have a name as of yet, other than "New Zealand National Lacrosse Team"

I got a minor knee injury in practice but played through it, I'm the goalie so I get a few knocks every match, I'm used to it. One player got a thumb injury, one player had his calves blown out, and one player was hit so had we had to stop the match, check for a spinal injury, and had to bench him for the rest of the match.
We'll work on the eyes, but the helmets make that difficult

Hey Rob
yeah i came by for a look
Bloody complicated looking at first
saw that guy get flipped onto his back by the shoulder charging Aucklander- FarK!
great game tho'- was 5-4 Wgtn when i left- with a coupla beauty goals incl. the back flick AK goal that you missed, but you made a great save from a throw way out~
Lots of Americanisms- flags on the ground, time outs, interchange
but a skilled sport no doubt with similiar basic strategy of soccer
Go the Swarm eh?

Thanks for swinging by - shame you didn't stay for the whole thing,
it was really entertaining. I can speak as a spectator too, our
other goalie was in town so we played a half each.
The sport does faze some people who think it's complicated, but the basic skills of catching and throwing aren't too hard, so once you have those sorted (which doesn't take that long) all it takes is practice. Plus we're pretty casual, we're not expecting the major leagues to scout us anytime soon so all we worry about is having fun, playing hard and beating Auckland haha.

It's Rongotai. Half of them will get stolen, so they need to increase the price to make up for that...
