I have been having an argument with two of my mates over the best movie of the 1980's. Keen to get the thoughts from the fever! Also don't want to do any work today

I thought you wanted an opinion on the best movies of the 80s. Don't think any Arnie movie falls into that category!

That hurts!!! to be honest we watched Commando and predator and the one-liners are timeless!

With Arnie he never took the film content seriously - lots of one-liner puns.

Stallone's films were tacky testosterone and explosions - not worth the price of a ticket but provided plenty of piss-take material.

Slight deviation of your thread but i can't recall any stand out 80s movies.  But think that TV series were pretty good back then.  Maybe just a reflection of my vewing habits.

Auf Wiedersehen Pet for example.

Agreed. To stay away from Arnie there is also Karate Kid, Bill and Ted's excellent Adventure and Indiana Jones.

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure was very good. I also enjoyed Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey although technically that is a 90s film.

What about Flying High? (Airplane in the US). Very funny.

Revenge of the Nerds also very good.

What's the Top Gun spoof starring Charlie Sheen?

I loved the scene where Charlie is on a riverine patrol boat, he passes another patrol boat going the opposite way with his dad Martin Sheen quoting a line from Apocalypse Now.  Charlie shouts to Martin "Hey, nice movie!!"

Blade Runner for a starters! Also the same year, one of the most underratted films ever, the remake of The Thing.

The decade of some of the best horror films ever made, even if like me you are no slasher fan.

Return of the Living Dead is amazing, best soundtrack of any film.    Bah but then there is Paris, Texas.

Vickmeist would probably say St Elmo's fire, Pretty in Pink or more likely Breakfast Club, but she is a girlie.

Honourable mention to Mad Max 2.

crappy but cool would include Basket Case.

I love them both. Aliens was on telly recently, it's still awesome. There is not one ounce of flab on that movie.

Blade runner is actually my personal all time favourite and the Thing remake with Kurt russell was damn good, along with Predator. great seeing them again in "home theatre". Scares the crap out of ya!
