In despair, I'm gonna write a book:
The Love of a Delusion - New Zealand's Auckland's deluded vision of grandeur with the America's Cup and why it's not the world's 7th biggest sporting event.

For $36 million, I don't expect to enter a boat race. I expect a sequel to Pirates of the Caribbean

Team NZ gets $36m America's Cup taxpayer cash

What a waste of money.
This is the sort of scandal Nippert and his NBR mates should be reporting on but despite both Stuff and the Herald being all over it the NBR hasn't even mentioned it today. Probably down at the Viaduct as we speak, helping Team NZ tackle their Champagne budget.

What is the 7th measured in?
In terms of the world super wealthy (and pig-ignorant governments) willing to chuck money away?

It's huge business.
So I've been told. Plus we all get to wear red socks which is good isn't it?

The thing I would like to know is does our continued involvement benefit the boat building industry in NZ? Would the other teams still use the Viaduct as a base if we weren't in the cup?
http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/opinion/4916324/Trevor-Mallard-behind-river-of-yachting-funding I think Ford makes some good points here.
I dont think anyone would deny that what has happend to our boating industry because of our involvement and success in the Americas Cup is a bad thing, but for the industry to continue to grow and flourish do we need to still be involved?

f**king hell the government has a way of contradicting itself..
We will never fully decide who has won the football.

In what way? It was a done deal 3 years ago. So unless you're saying theyre contradicting something they said more than 3 years ago..?
Allegedly

I see it was a "water tight" deal done 3 years ago, but would rather see 36 mil go else where. Especially when the government is doing rigorous spending cuts, even thought that is impossible.
not a good thing to be splashed across the headlines when lately it has been all about spending cuts.Azevo2011-04-21 17:22:17
