There's a huge difference between some of us anonymously posting our personal opinions on a forum and someone who has been employed as an ambassador and representative of the country making comments that will be reported around the world.

Regardless of whether he is correct or not, if he had even half a clue he would have realised what impact his comments would have. He's clearly spent too much time on the wrong side of a ruck and taken too many sprigs to the head.

Andy Haden, you are the weakest link. Goodbye!

Just because a  female (or male for that matter)is  young ,drunk and/or stupid still doesn't justify an act of sexual aggression on their person surely?

I didn't say it did. But as someone who kind of stood out as  a young female and certainly did my share of drinking there is a point where you jst need to keep yourself safe. Sorry but as a female I'm saying that females who do act like slappers shouldn't be surprised whn thats exactly how guys treat them. Woman who wd f**k or suck someone simply because they are 'famous' let the rest of us down

I think you've got the definition of rape wrong. Saying theres 2 sides to a rape story combined with that is like saying "well yeah he raped her,but she was asking for it (in some way).

Errm no.

no where above have I been talking about rape. i merely said that I think Hayden is retarded & that some woman and the way they act around sportsmen is cringe worthy. both of which are facts. personally i think Robin Brooke is creepy and immoral & that f**king a comatose girl is beyond scummy. a girl getting herself comatose and being in a bed drunk with her mate and a sportsman is stupid but doesnt mean she asked for anything. but lets face it we're not aware of all the facts

Hayden said ""It's an equal society now, some of these girls are targeting rugby players and targeting sportsmen and they do so at their peril today, I think." He didn't actually say anywhere that they deserve anything that happens. "peril" means exposure to risk and offering yourself to someone you don't know is always taking a risk and lets face it in NZ groupie culture alcohol is often involved which adds to the risk factor as sound judgement (by either party) is likely to be impaired

As much as I loathe the crime of rape I also loathe the way some woman will do anything for a brush with fame even if it demeans them and enforces the image amongst some sportsman that woman will do anything for them. And I'm talking from personal experience as I have a very infamous sporting mate & I've frequently seen woman throw themselves at him and i know he takes advantage of it & thinks little of the woman or their wants/needs

I know what you're saying, and it was wrong of me to link what you said with Haden (Though this is a thread about what he said).

I just think the context in what he said it was pretty disgusting, and is the key difference to how you're putting it,and what he said. He said in a context that was defending the rugby players,as i said above "some are targeting sportsman" (as i said above - 'they deserve it') or even in a way that denied that theyd been raped at all "when he cheque bounces then they decide theyve been raped".

He really is a typical 'old school' rugby boof head.

while you're more focusing on the fact you dislike those who throw themselves at famous people,in a way that is unrelated to rape.

He again continues instead of apologising.

"It doesn't speak a lot about Robin Brooke but at the same time it doesn't speak very highly of these girls who openly admitted that they went out with this as a purpose."

he has no clue. As if she went out to be raped.

Some more interesting comments from others that sum it up nicely.

Wellington Sexual Abuse Help Foundation spokeswoman Helen Sullivan

"An equal society does not mean that men are allowed to rape women."

Ms Sullivan also said there was "nothing unusual" about men or women seeking out high profile people. "That happens all the time and in doing that they're not saying 'I want to be raped' - they're two very different things."

The National Collective of Independent Rape Crisis also slammed Haden:

"Sex with someone whilst they are comatose doesn't equate to an equal society.

"Andy has further diminished the group of men he represents and sounds like he's still existing in the 1960's ... a time when Maori couldn't tour South Africa and a wife could not charge her husband with rape.

"We have moved on since those times but people with attitudes like this are doing nothing for the promotion of equality in our society."

I agree he is a boofhead but I also do believe that partly its the culture consisting of woman throwing themselves at their fame that turns rugbyheads and esp aussie league players into guys who have little respect for woman and who have a low opinion of the 'so called' loose ones.

My mate I mentioned earlier has calmed down a bit lately but at one point he wd usually sleep with (or have some kind of sexual interlude) between 5-10 diff woman every week often in groups & he never chased. It was bizarre and stupid of both parties but his reasoning was they were there for the taking and willing to do what he wanted so why not. He always seemed to consider his groupies a diff species from the woman he was mates with or occasionally actually got involved with - that whole whores or wives type of breakdown

Another mate of mine once spent 3hrs chatting on the phone with me in the middle of his night from a hotel corridor overseas while two of his international sporting teammates both f**ked stray woman in his room next to ea other. both of those guys were married and he said it was a regular occurrence with many of the team - take what is offered

its just my opinion that if you're constantly exposed to woman (often drunk) willing to do things to you without any satisfaction or benefit simply because of who you are then you are bound to not think much of them & end up having little regard to their feelings/wants/reasoning etc & you're certainly not likely to have any respect for them

i dont really see that as even vaguely valid reasoning for rape though. its like saying "well he had a bad upbringing so of course he'd grow up a murderer" there may be a background to it,but that doesnt make it right. for haden to come out in public as some sort of defensive reasoning to back these players up is disgusting. massive difference between pointing it out on a forum and doing what he did by the way,so i in no way am saying that you're wrong or disgusting,am sure you know that but still worth mentioning in case someone didnt pick up on that! what you gave was a very fair, correct and balanced view, hadens was very much one sided.Tegal2010-07-10 11:53:58

lol I wasn't saying that is reasoning for rape or even that its his reasoning for rape. i was saying its part of why rugby players including him are boofheads

Thats what i thought i went on to say in the rest of my post . Im saying you're saying it in one context, whereas he tried to use it as a valid reasoning for it. Not you.

I think we all know someone who puts themselves in harms way. One person in particular that I know 'collects' rugby league players but can't understand why they don't call back.
But when a bloke is in that situation, you've got to play a straight bat and not engage.
