Doesn't Auckland have a quota where they can have no more than three white players?

Thames Valley have a quota where they can have no more than three decent players.

A RU attempt for frontpage headlines in this hour of "poofball" threat?  Super 14 dead and buried.  A great "story".  An even more polarising villian (water off a duck's back to him).  The race card.  The Murray Deaker factor...

Too good to be true IMHO.

Weak kneed McCully showing once again he has no balls. He hasn't changed since his last stint in power. Haden should be gone.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Im confused about what the story has become now, is it that he used the term 'darkies' or is that he still claims the Crusaders have some sort of quota policy?

Both.

Murry is still trying, and failing, to bring up evidence of this. He's also trying to justify Haden.

Key and McCully have tried to make the story about the 'darkies' comment, and forgiven him with the guys 'apology'. For me, that ignores the real issue of the completely unsubstantiated allegations against the crusaders.

Haden has to be the thickest plank ever - and that's before you even get to the "darkie" remark. how gutless of McCully (talk about not wanting to upset the Old Boys network) to let him hang on. I just cant believe how thick and how lacking in basic judgment and intelligence haden must be. Not only is he stupid enough to think a union has such a policy, but to think they would write it down is gobsmackingly dumb (it would for starters be illegal). and then to make the claim of such a ludicrous policy publicly without actually having seen it or sighted beggars all belief. any individual this dumb and this lacking in judgment is unfit to have any government appointed role, especially one intended to be ambassadorial. McCully is pathetic too.

PS and let's not forget that once it was revealed that there is no such formal policy (making his claims nothing more than libelous, unsubstantiated muck-raking), Haden is still too pig-headed to apologise to the union. Marius Lacatus2010-05-31 15:16:21

I am yet to be convinced that such a policy did not or does not exist.

Agree with the rest about general ignorance and stupidity however.

While I don't agree with the racism side of it. There is and has always only been a select few polynesians in the Crusaders. They said there was plenty this year Khan Fotualii, Tii Paulo, Robbie Fruean. (that's three) and then they said Daniel Bowden and Zac Guildford. although those two may have polynesian or maori blood lines they are still "whities." But then it comes down to the canterbury academy and the amount of polynesians even living in Chch. But what many people don't realize is the amount of players Canterbury get just before their ready for super14 so when they do make their debut for the crusaders it seems like they're a local product.

Didnt he link the crusaders success to the fact they have this policy also? Just what ive heard.

If not,I dont see why there is such a big fuss about him making a false claim,it makes him an idiot, but the amount of coverage and outrage by the maori party doesnt measure up...unless the above is true.

EDIT:

"In the Crusaders manual, there it is, it's enshrined in their articles, and they've stuck by that. And they know damn well that that's the case. And it's worked."

Ah,terrible. He should most definetly step down,or be made to leave as ambassador.

To me,its not about the darkys comment (so much, though the context he used it in was offensive),nor the true or untrue claim against the crusaders..but it's the fact he links the success of the crusaders to such a quota. Horribly racist.

He's been missed out so let's now mention Chris Laidlaw. Was on the telly next to Haden said not a word but check out his new book "Somebody Stole My Game"...  for material like this -
"When there is a loss of confidence among one or two Polynesian players it can rapidly affect the others, dragging the team performance down," Laidlaw writes. "It is often said that Pacific Islanders are not thinkers on the field, and that too many of them on a team means a dumbing-down of tactical acumen. It isn't a very persuasive argument, but it is clearly a factor in some teams because, on balance, Maori and Pacific Islanders tend to be more instinctive than measured in their approach, and every team at the top level needs someone who can plot and plan, adjust and adapt ..."

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Hmm borderline. He is making blatant stereotypes, but based on observation, and on one part of play rather than their ability on the whole.

I think there is a slight enough difference between that and Hadens comments.

Though saying too many on a team leads to dumbing down of tactical acumen is quite an iffy thing to say.
