A post mortem was due to be held on the body of a toddler today after ambulance officers arrived to find him dead at his south Auckland home.
The boy's mother called an ambulance to the Te Irirangi Drive, Flatbush house just after 3am today but the toddler, a 16-month-old boy, could not be revived.
Detective Kate Smith said police were expecting to know more about how the child died after the post mortem today.
She said the alarm was first raised by the toddler's mother.
"She has called an ambulance and police were called by the ambulance."
It was not known if the little boy had any injuries.
Ambulance officers said the body of the boy was taken to the police mortuary and not to hospital.
