evening all,

Just interested.. Any of you suffered from anxiety before?

like feeling sick, or sore muscles or headaches from the dread of something?

:)

All the time. Want to talk about it?

Three for me, and two for them.

Yip, me too.  As in not just usual but went to see the doctor about it (a number of times, infact).  If you want to ask anything, though, PM me.

How do you stop it?

I've just got over a bout of it with the new born. Constantly wired, guts doing the spin cycle, I lost 4 kg in a month!. I hadn't felt like that so constantly since my final exams at uni.
I started drinking red seal relaxation tea which helped me wind down a bit and sleep (big hint - stay off the caffeine coffee/red bull etc)

My anxiety was around settling the wee man, the wife made me burp, settle and put the baby to sleep after every feed for a week which has got me over my anxiety, and I'm a lot more relaxed now.

I suppose talking about it helps a lot, for me telling the missus how I was feeling and her implementing the aversion therapy approach solved it for me!

So I'd suggest talking about it with a good friend or relative, if you're not able to do that, maybe talk to your GP who might be able to suggest counselling that might be available.

Get plenty of fresh air and exercise to get your mind of it which is always a help - and try and avoid too much booze.

I think I might have had a bit of this a few years back now I think of it. Didn't realize what it is but from what I've read I think it was this.

I get really bad nausea. Been to doctors, took blood tests and other stuff and waiting to see if it's something viral..

Pretty sure it's not..

It happens when I make mistakes at my work and they come back to me.. makes me second guess myself.. and then my body goes crazy..

My job isn't stressful nor are the mistakes big ones but it's my natural instinct and it suuucks

haha. Good to hear i'm not alone

I've had for years maybe two years ago and it's just come back and i've just realised what it is.

Symptoms getting worse though for me, like pins and needles quite often, always really tired and i get really stressed and worked up over people being angry or anything awkward. but the constant feeling of being sick whenever i leave the house.

Does your employer have a Employee Assistance Program, usually a hotline or such you can call to arrange an appointment with a support counsellor to discuss stress and anxiety related issues.

Maybe such as: http://www.eapservices.co.nz/

Same with me at my job.  It's only part-time work retail but especially when I have to close up at night I stress so bad that I've not done it correctly and I make sure that everything's locked up because if it wasn't and anything went array it'd all be on me.

Was diagnosed with it years ago. Not fun, but after a lot of work I've gotten to the point that I can deal with it without medication. Just a fact of life for me now, I'm probably always going to have it but it's relatively manageable.

I had a full-on panic attack about 5 years ago, which was ridiculously not fun. I've had a few minor ones since, and am constantly aware of it.

Sometimes I get a huge rush of adrenaline over something minor, like a work mistake (as people have said), and it becomes very hard to think or behave clearly. The best advice I've read was to try not to fight it and let it take it's course, because it's the only way you'll come to see its harmlessness. When you fight it, you make it worse.

But it's easier said than done.

Sounds a bit like anxiety attacks surrounding "over breathing".  It's sort of a rush associated with high emotions.  The bad news is this can be hard wired.  The good news is you can train your body out of it.
So let's say you mess up some transaction at work, breathe all the way out and then start breathing slowly through your nose and try to keep breathing from the stomach [diaphragm](do a quick sniff, it's your stomach that pops out not the chest), then say "you're right, I'll take care of this."  Address the problem, get rid of the trigger.
Later on at home for a few minutes, shut your eyes and try to learn to breathe slowly from the stomach, slow in, maybe 10-11 seconds out, via the nose.  A couple of weeks of this and believe me the "reaction" just disappears.
The other way is to hold your breath for 10-15 seconds but you can't do that in a work situation.
Lastly, occasional vigorous exercise can help reset your breathing patterns.
I went all the way to a neuro surgeon before it was spotted.
Good luck.

^yeah how you breathe is really important. When people panic, they over inhale, causing CO2 levels to drop, which can causes the tingling in the hands and feet that sometimes people get (can also get so bad that you can't move your hands). That's why people breathe through paper bags, to reabsorb CO2. You can put your hands over your mouth, but obviously that's hard with people around.

So yeah, calm breathing equals calm response.
