Any advice? Thoughts?

Have recently got my ass into gear in finding a job because I finish up University in a few weeks.

Am curious as to how some of you guys managed out doing this? I sort of have an idea where to begin, but don't really have many contacts with people who know of some jobs, so it's pretty tough at the moment. I don't really have much work experience as the olds drilled into my head 'education before work son!', feels as though it has massively screwed me over.

I dunno, it's looking pretty tough out there at the moment for us lot who are trying to enter the workforce, I feel as though I am pretty good prospect for an employer, but know that someone else older and wiser will already be in the front line ready to snap up the job.

So Fever, what do you think? Would love some thoughts, preferable serious but knowing some of you lot..

No advice, just good luck and hope something comes along soon.

(But for what it's worth your olds were right.  Very hard to go back to study once you are in the workforce.)

Yeah though I found the same thing. Any job you go for, experience is required. Even for jobs you can do in your sleep these days you need either a qualification or experience.

How are you supposed to get it? It seems the only way one can get an entry job is by knowing someone.

Frustrating.

Allegedly

Cheers lads,

It makes sense that just perserverance is key, can relate my skills and experience to a lot of things, just need to get the interviews to prove this..

Am cruious as to how some of you ended up doing what you're doing? I guess it was sort of hit and miss?

What did you study? And what field/industry do you want to get into?

Majored in IR and Philsophy, but did some economics..

Not sure, ideally working with the U.N or MFAT.. But thats way down the track. Some quite good NGO's or MNC's who sound like they'd be great to work for.

Just looking for any old job at the moment, ideally something in government or in an office.

Thats what I hope, gravy is pretty good on things. Not like I want to be rich, just satisfied I suppose?

Has anyone ever done volunteer work From Volunteering New Zealand? Thought I might give it a go to curb my boredem.. So bored at the moment.

If you go down to Newtown Park early next month I sure Ricki will give you a job

How are you with bibs, cones and that sort of thing

And if you are really lucky you might even get the volunteer of the year award for next season

Just get out there and put your face about and don`t be afraid of Knock Backs

You might just surprise yourself.

Definitely not afraid of knock backs, though infuriating at times.. Thought I was done with university last year, turns out I needed one more paper, thus here I am stuck as a part time student haha. 3 more weeks left though. Excite.

Maybe I could advise Ricki on the moral implciations of signing another 'Toto'...

I had a friend go to Nepal with VNZ or something similar, He found it very rewarding and has gone back (well he's been there nearly two years I reckon) to continue helping out the orphanage he helped the first time round.
