House leaked in heavy rain on Monday.

Car had water pissing out of it today (Wednesday).

Work is getting on my tits...

This week can fudge right off!

I'm staring at being made redundant.

The weather sucks.

Was out photographing the sunrise this morning and had a tripod malfunction resulting in my camera crashing lens first into the ground. Bye bye trusty lens. And gi get fudgeed bad week!

Update: It appears the camera may have sustained some damage also. Grrrrr

3 kids under 5, all sick, plus the baby teething at the moment as well... wife is sleep deprived as a result, so is not her usual self (which isn't exactly friendly anyway) and work is stupid busy atm.

Also, with the wife on maternity (no longer paid), and her company want their car back, so now I need to buy a new car...

This forum is literally my escape at the moment... thankfully its not as depressing as usual!!

The "consultation" phase.

Yeah. Right.

Update:

A new day and new hope. It appears upon close inspection that my camera body survived the ordeal yesterday. Only the lens has been damaged.

While it sucks to be without the lens until I sort out insurance for it, its a relief to know my camera is still useful

Sh*t this cracked me up Surge, having seen my various workplaces put staff through it many many many times over the last 5-10 years.

For the record I have many sh*t weeks, but am having some good ones at the moment!

Finish up my current job next Thursday, starting at WorkSafe on July 2, can't bloody wait, should be interesting.

Hope your weeks are looking up though fellas!

Metalleg, I identify with you more than most here. Got 3 daughters, 2, 4 and 6 years old, and over the past couple of years have had many times with the whole family sick, it's certainly not fun. The norovirus a few years back was quite the spectacle. Our carpet has never been the same...

Shark week has gotten a bit sharkter with news that the old man's ticker is getting tired... and there's bugger all they can do about it (major surgery isn't on the table - see what I did there? lol).

So I'm having a day at home applying for a couple of new roles and watching some football.

Also considering a career change. Which isn't easy in your mid-40's (which isn't even THAT bluddy old lol).

Gutted to hear that Surge! (The thing about your Dad that is!)

As for the Career change. Get into it! mid-40's is never to old for anything. (except for loitering around Primary Schools when you don't have kids there!)

If you don't try it then in a year from now you will wish you started today!

I wonder if Heraf will make a post in this thread??

Sorry to hear about your old man Surge - never nice. A go for the career change, no one on their death bed says they wish they had worked more at a job they didn't like. Work takes too much time for us to waste it on something that doesn't drive us.

That is shark, I had similar situation 8 years ago, My old man had multiple health issues and was in need of a liver transplant, but not strong enough to get one, he passed away while he was being assessed for suitability. I also changed career from IT to Tourism at the time, only things I'd say is enjoy as much time with your old man as possible, treat him just the same as if he wasn't ill - well except for stuff his health won't allow - I couldn't go to the pub with my old man like we used to, keep the humour up it helps A LOT for everyone

For the career change, it is hard, look at what you want to be doing over the next 10-20 years before you retire (and also take in to account the money you need to save for retirement). I went into tourism which was great, but paid F-all, now after time working in retail as I needed a job ended up as a draughtsman for an Architect, enjoying it heaps, but not paid well and sometimes I wish I had stayed in IT so I could do things like travel to the World Cup etc. Although had I stayed in IT, I'd have probably had a stroke or heart attack by now.

Hey Journey... have you started to retrain as a draughtsman or as a Quantity Surveyor while you work?

They are in such high demand (my wife is one) and the pay is very good - doesn't take long to move up through the stages, particularly if you have a good work ethos.

I must say, this forum deserves a lot more credit than what it probably gets outside these walls for the fact we have sections like this. Good to see people looking out for other people. It's appreciated!!

Two weeks ago a friend committed suicide and my grandmother died the following day. All when I was already a wreck and trying to get myself stable.

Funeral last week.

This week's better.

How's the Career change going Surge?

Having a meeting today about how the current one's going to end (the conscious uncoupling lol) and ideally having a few days to clear the lid then start the process of moving forward. Have applied for a role that looks absolutelyfudgeingfantastic in an area I'm keen on but have low expectations based on limited demonstrated and specific experience in that arena (change communication to be specific), but plenty of transferable stuff.

So yeah, the planets are still moving towards the perfect alignment (whatever that is), but they will get there!

That's great to hear!

I just had the meeting following the consultation and redundancy confirmed (yussss), next step is to negotiate some gardening leave in lieu of a payout (stupid private sector contracts lol).

What kind of work you looking for?

What kind of work you looking for?

Not sure yet - have been doing training & development stuff for over a decade so thinking about a change into something more operational; possibly proj mgmt, comms, change mgmt, who knows... or possibly going back into sales/account mgmt.

Once I finish up I'll spend a bit of time working out what the next step should be - of the ultimate factor will be on what opportunities are out there.
