Avatars - some 'ave em, some don't?

have noticed a lot of forumites have no avatars? So non-avatar forumies, what's the story? can't be arsed finding a fitting image to represent yourself? or another reason? There are also a few that are using the same avatar...

I must admit it took me ages to work it out. Too big file or pixel size, or if I got it right it still wouldn't come up on other people's computers even though it was one mine.

My favourite is the one that zooms in on Mick McCarthy (who I adore minus his team) and he does that little smile...
