Was thinking of you stopout, when during the 2nd 1/4, some 15 players touched/fumbled the ball within about 6 seconds.

Seriously, the game might of been close, but if that was one of the "Great Grand Finals" - good grief...

What do people think about replaying the final next week?

Its a pretty cool novelty but looking at the big picture im not sold on it. Some pissed off fans who can't get back for the 2nd week, like someone said before the FFA will be fuming (which is hardly the AFLs fault) as will the NRL, id imagine even the players would be a bit pissed. I imagine it would be incredibly tough to get up for 2 grand finals, I bet its hard getting up mentally for 1!

I remember from the few FA Cup finals that went to replays. Seemed to add a new tension to the match.

Bearing in mind the costs for fans maybe an "on the day" solution would have been in order.

Both Captains came out post match and said it was a joke! What if the MCG had been booked next week? Will there be another Grand Final breakfast? Can Channel 7 manage to make their coverage for all day again? I guess they will have yesterdays game to analyse.

The NRL will be absolutely fuming.

How about Lenny getting the Norm Smith? What a joke (not him getting it, but that they even give the prize out). And Goddards mark in the last quarter, absolute champion.

Devastated with another week though

Why is it a joke? A game was played, he was thought to be best on ground (personally, I thought Goddard had it sewn up, he was clearly the dominant player on the day), and so the award was given.

Saints probably would have won the flag if they did. Pies were out of momentum last week, but the siren hit as the scores were level. 10 more minutes and St. Kilda would have been up by 10 points or so I think.

Cheers mate. TBH, you lot were never going to back up from that effort the previous week, that was the most amazing comeback ever, and it just took too much out of you. Still, Saints are an awesome team, and with the right trades, pickups and delistings, they'll be right up in it next year.

The classiest bloke on the day award has to go to Luke Ball. His post match humility and mixed emotion was incredibly moving. He was so aware of how his ex-team mates must be hurting that he couldn't celebrate in front of them, and even gave Hayes a hug and told him he loved him. Beautiful stuff.

Hope you're right, although it does seem like our list is getting older and I do wonder if the window is closing as some people are saying. I wonder what a difference Lovett may have made to our team with a little pace and flair along with all the slower white boys.

Pies were by far the best team this season so well done. Luke Ball was my fav Saints player when he was with us so I'm happy that he did well. Any gossip on trades etc? All the pies returning next year?

Wrap up so far-

ADELAIDE
On the table: The Crows haven't openly discussed any of their players leaving, but in order to get something you have to give. Tall James Sellar, who has played 16 games since debuting in 2008, could be the Crows' key to landing any of their potential targets this week. He has been linked to a possible deal for Blues ruckman Sam Jacobs.
Targets: Jacobs wants to return to his native SA, while fellow Blue Andrew Walker, who is contracted for another two seasons, has met with the Crows. Contracted Tigers midfielder Richard Tambling has also held talks with Adelaide.

BRISBANE LIONS
On the table: Michael Rischitelli has already left for the Gold Coast and Jared Brennan is set to join him via a trade. Contracted midfielder Justin Sherman is expected to seek a trade to a Victorian club, but the Swans are also interested. Ash McGrath could depart to ease salary cap pressure.
Targets: Given the fallout from last year's trade activity it would be reasonable to expect the Lions to have a quieter exchange period this year.

CARLTON
On the table: Sam Jacobs wants to return to Adelaide to play for the Crows, while Shaun Grigg has also expressed a desire to be traded. Andrew Walker is contracted for next year and is happy to stay but several clubs are interested and if the Blues get a good deal, they're willing to talk. Bret Thornton could also find a new home.
Targets: The Blues are desperate for a key defender. They will try to convince former Freo full back Chris Tarrant that Carlton is the place for him, despite the one-time Magpie wanting to return to the nest. Lion Jared Brennan, Tiger Will Thursfield and Eagle Matt Spangher are other talls around but the Blues want Tarrant most.

COLLINGWOOD
On the table: The reigning premiers are likely to make several changes to their list despite Saturday's success. Veterans Josh Fraser, Paul Medhurst and Leon Davis may all be discussed in coming days, while John Anthony is certain to attract interest.
Targets: The Pies' list looks super-strong with no glaring deficiencies. Chris Tarrant wants to come back to the club where it all started for him, and the defender's potential return would further stiffen an already-solid back six. If Fraser goes, another ruckman could be considered.

ESSENDON
On the table: New coach James Hird is going over his list and working out who is expendable and who isn't. Bombers Brent Stanton, Bachar Houli, David Myers and Alwyn Davey are among those considering their futures and have drawn interest from rival clubs in the lead-up to trade week.
Targets: Essendon has cash in its war chest and is looking to land a big fish - preferably to aid skipper Jobe Watson in the midfield. Lions Jared Brennan and Justin Sherman have been linked to the Dons who, with a talented young spine, are in search of some speed and class.

FREMANTLE
On the table: Chris Tarrant has declared Collingwood his preferred destination and will leave whether he gets to the Magpies or not, while Byron Schammer and Ryan Murphy's cards have been marked. A trade would appear their only option to play on.
Targets: Jon Griffin wants to return to WA, but the Dockers are also interested in Lions' big man Mitch Clark, who would be the preferred option. Collingwood's John Anthony could be available as a swap for Tarrant, while Tiger Will Thursfield has met with coach Mark Harvey.

GEELONG
On the table: The Cats are unlikely to dangle any of their big names out there but Nathan Djerrkura and Ryan Gamble want a fresh start elsewhere and Geelong will try to find them new homes. One of Trent West or Mark Blake is also likely to be moved on, perhaps depending on which one the club can get the better deal for.
Targets: The loss of Gary Ablett may mean Geelong is more active in trade week, but who will call the shots? Mark Thompson's departure will leave chief recruiter Stephen Wells and footy manager Neil Balme with some tough decisions. The Cats haven't gone public with any targets, and may be devising when - or how - to use their compensation picks.

GOLD COAST
On the table: To any club wanting to grab one of Gold Coast's first-round picks ... good luck. Recruiting boss Scott Clayton says the Suns are likely to stick by their philosophy of bringing in as much young talent as possible, so that means they're unlikely to off-load any of their early picks. They may, however, pre-list some players - such as Andrew Krakouer - and then trade them to rival clubs should the price be right.
Targets: The Suns are believed to be inching closer to a deal on former Lion Jared Brennan. That could cost them a first-round pick, given Michael Rischitelli heads down the road as the Suns' uncontracted player from the Brisbane Lions. Blue Shaun Grigg and Roo David Hale may be others the Suns consider.

HAWTHORN
On the table: Hawthorn is undecided on the future of Carl Peterson, while five-year players such as Beau Muston and Beau Dowler are out of contract with the Hawks seemingly willing to talk should a rival club express interest.
Targets: The Hawks are confident in the strength of their list but like a couple of other clubs, would like another key defender. Hawthorn wants to keep its early picks but is keen to nab Chris Tarrant if possible. List manager Chris Pelchen also said his club would look at an experienced ruckman, such as David Hale, to complement the club's young big men.

MELBOURNE
On the table: Brad Miller was set to be delisted until Richmond expressed an interest, so he should be off to Punt Rd. Nathan Jones was talked about as possibly seeking a new home but has just re-signed. It's hard to see many of Dean Bailey's young squad being ushered out.
Targets: The Demons are looking to consolidate their list by re-signing the wealth of young talent they already have rather than build it by trading, although they appear interested in North's David Hale.

NORTH MELBOURNE
On the table: David Hale appears to be surplus to requirements at the Kangaroos, and will depart if a fair deal can be done, with Melbourne, Hawthorn and Essendon all interested. Gavin Urquhart and Matt Campbell have also been mentioned.
Targets: Will be looking for draft picks rather than players, but aren't desperate to get them.

PORT ADELAIDE
On the table: Daniel Motlop could be on the move after 70 games at Port. The Power have already turned over eight players through delistings, retirements and Nathan Krakouer's defection to Gold Coast.
Targets: Geelong's Andrew Mackie has been mentioned as a potential target, but that appears a long shot. The club has already declared it will have a quiet trade week, with plenty depending on Motlop.

RICHMOND
On the table: Richard Tambling appears Adelaide-bound in exchange for the Crows' Nathan Bock compensation pick. Key defender Will Thursfield has asked for a trade, with Fremantle a possibility, as they look for a replacement for Chris Tarrant, although Carlton has also been mentioned.
Targets: The Tigers are keen on Lion Justin Sherman, along with Blue Shaun Grigg who told his club he wants a trade. Essendon's Bachar Houli has also been linked to the Tigers, while delisted Demon Brad Miller is being mentioned as a forward mentor for Jack Riewoldt. Geelong's Mark Blake has also been mooted as a potential ruck option.

ST KILDA
On the table: Playing in two grand finals has kept the Saints fairly quiet so far, but David Armitage going to Essendon has been mentioned around the traps.
Targets: Will presumably try to trade in some leg speed, as they did last year with Andrew Lovett and Brett Peake, neither of whom delivered as hoped.

SYDNEY SWANS
On the table: Young forward Patrick Veszpremi, who was recruited with pick No.11 in 2008, has been linked to the Western Bulldogs after an underwhelming start to his career. Ed Barlow, Daniel Currie and Matt O'Dwyer may also look for more opportunities elsewhere.
Targets: Usually astute with their recycled players, few targets have been mentioned at the Swans this year. Lion Justin Sherman is in the club's sights with the Swans trying to trump their rivals with a big-money deal for the midfielder.

WEST COAST
On the table: Defender Matt Spangher and fellow Victorian Ben McKinley have fallen down the pecking order at West Coast and both have requested trades. Ash Hansen is contracted but may also be deemed surplus to requirements.
Targets: Bulldogs forward Josh Hill, who hails from WA, would be a good fit at West Coast. The Eagles are also interested in WAFL star Andrew Krakouer but may have to deal with Gold Coast to land him.

WESTERN BULLDOGS
On the table: Josh Hill, Andrejs Everitt and Brennan Stack have all been mentioned. The Dogs are looking to be active in trade week, and would be heartened by how well the Barry Hall trade worked for them.
Targets: The Dogs are looking for midfield speed and crumbing forwards - some names so far are Patrick Veszpremi, Justin Sherman and Nathan Djerrkura. Names also being associated with the Bulldogs are Carlton's Andrew Walker and Geelong's Trent West.

So what is the go with Gary Ablett? Is he definitely going? Same with Mark Thompson? The pies might let go of Medhurst, Davis and Fraser? I thought they were all pretty key players (although I didn't watch as much footy this year).
