Best/Worst Radio Stations

What do people reckon the best and worst radio stations are?

For me....

Best: Nova 100 in australia (The announcers are gold!) - The Rock or Radiosport in NZ.

Worst: The Edge.Gangsta!2008-08-31 00:05:28

Whats wrong with the edge, some of their stuff is actually funny and the new music isn't that bad..

ive got a song that wont take long, Adelaide are rubbish.. the second verse is same as the first.. ADELAIDE ARE RUBBISH

The Edge is dreadful.  Full of over-confident presenters doing stupid things in a vain attempt to be humorous (points to arm).  Painful to listen to, and the music is usually not much better.  Same applies for ZM and The Rock.

I miss Nova (106.9 in Brissy) but it's great having Radio Sport to be fair

I lived in Sydney when Nova 96.9 was launched, with Merrick & Rosso. Was the only station I listened to in the car, and in the house Sat morn.

Listen to Dave & Camille on Classic Hits in the car to work in the morning here. Don't get a good reception of Classic in the house, so usually More FM.

Tried listening to Radio@ctive a few times, but a bit too alternative for my liking.

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

Find ZM to be pretty good, way less "over the line" than the edge in terms of the content. Used to listen to The Rock all day every day in CHCH when I was doing deliverys/sales and was on the road most of the day! I think the key is having "no-repeat days" as I notice with ZM that their songs seem to be on 4 hour cycles and by the end of the day you're well sick of them!

I made that mistake listening to More FM when I took the day off the paint the living room, heard 'I kissed a girl last night' about 6 or 7 times between 9 & 5

Active is my favourite in Wellington - haha, but then I am one of those alternative creative types. When I was studying in Dunedin it was Radio One. Other than that, its Newstalk or Radio Sport.

ZM annoys me like anything, but the Edge is atrocious, and I haven't really felt inclined to listen to any others to make a fair judgement. And I haven't lived anywhere other than Wellington or Dunedin...Carol2008-08-31 13:12:28

BFM
Active
George
Radio Sport
The Phoenix Hour or Piney on Newstalk.

Everything else is avoided like the plague.

Although, I just realised, with my Jap import car, about the only FM mainstream station I can get is Classic Hits!

I get all the Nova podcasts I can. It's brilliant, well thought out, funny radio.

Also love Hamish and Andys radio show.

The Rock is my favourite music radio station in NZ and thats for the music. Nothing else.Gangsta!2008-08-31 15:29:31

See the things that piss you off thread. Just because music is new doesn't mean its good.

And any radio station that plays songs by Snoop dog or Soulja boy has to suck.

To be fair, it's not really aimed at you.  Unless you are 12.

Worst: The Rock. Truly dreadful.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

When I was a kid Active was the only station to play decent music. If it wasn't for them I'd have no idea about Hip Hop, classic reggae, soul, funk, indie, techno and house. Not sure if that's still the case, but they were the best.

All the other stations were more or less the same in their banality.

Any station that insists on playing hip hop or rap gets the big switcher offaroo.

Can someone tell why does Nick Tansley think he's actually funny?? Sick deprived pevert more like it. He's about as fun ny as a fart in an elevator.

HN, agree with the Nix Hour, there's some interesting comments said on there. I also like listening to Miles Davis on any forum as he's good for sport but also great on maintstream talkback too.

It is all a matter of opinion...

Radio stations can't suck because they play one or two bands that you dislike. They have to have variation due to the different audiences across the country..

EXCEPT when it comes to The Rock. Their dreadfulness is immovable.

The Rock is the best by far.

Robert and Jonno are great.

Those were examples...

and if the edge has to have variation "due the different audiences across the country" why don't they ever play classical music?

Has anyone listened to BSport? Verdict, still haven't tuned in. Anyone with an idea as to how they're rating?

There Breakfasts are awesome.

There night and weekend stuff is alright, Some of it is a little average.

Haven't listened to anything else.

In march (which is when the most recent ratings where released) they had a 0.8 % share of the audience above the age of 10 nationwide compared with Radiosport which had a 3.2% share.

I listen to  fat Sean Plunket and Jeff  on Radio NZ mornings, I am a  bit of a news junky ,occasionally Active Breakfast  or the Englishman Red bird Junior later on , some of the talk backs channels are good for a laugh as people vent there extreme spleens on air only to be mowed down and cut off by some right wing jock but it  gets a bit tedious after a while.
Kim Hill on Sundays RNZ  has some pretty interesting guests even if the host is a bit grating at times but my favourite show is the consumer programme This way up on Saturdays Radio NZ,so i suppose Radio NZ would be my most listened to station followed by Active  !  As someone once said you always get a better picture on radio!

The answer to life's problems are rarely found at the bottom of a beer glass - but it's always worth a look.

If I listened to radio I wouldn't be on this site so damn much (multi tasking not possible).

Somehow don't think any NZ radio station could fulfill my musical (noise?) needs..but someone please correct me if I am wrong. There was a station a few years back that would play some noise but I think I was the only one who (occasionally) listened as it was pulled of air for some Kiwi oriented nonsence...
