Anyone else out there who has a few Bob memories in the soundtrack to their life??
I remember singing "get up stand up" along with 30-40 student protestors in Hamilton in the eighties as we cruised around on a escalator loop in the government building near Garden Place.
also singing "no woman no cry" with a few mates near the top of Mt Pureora on a field trip
saw him at western springs
but really there's a few tracks that instantly take me back to my youth the moment i hear them
(perhaps this topic should be subtitled -old farts reminiscing
)

Were you a student protester in the eighties Tigers? My rough mathematical skills learned at primary school had you a little older than that
I'm a little young for revolutionary Bob Marley memories, though there was a rivial of the Redemption Song in my earlier student days in the anti-Iraq war movement (my rather brief flirtation with the idealistic Dunedin protest movement

I doubt the fault lies with your mathematical ability (or that of your teacher/s) but you failed to account for the fact that in those days some of us managed to do six year bachelor's degrees and even then pissed about a bit more before getting a proper job

Top of George Street in Thorndon one night. A whole pile of us punks, maybe fifteen, singing the chorus to a Marley song.
<slight tangent>Was working with Neil and Carol in London. Neil made a comment about Peter Tosh to which Carol answered in a familiar way. Neil says " Carol, do you know Peter Tosh?". She replied "not saying but you two come to lunch with me tomorrow".
When we met up she had a few photos with her. Lots of her and Peter Tosh. For me the best one though was her cooking with Bob Marley sitting on the kitchen bench next to her. Carol put it this way "nah big deal. we just grew up together".

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Hey... I'm doing a six year bachelor's degree... not that there's much time for pissing around as I'll need a job asap to make a dent in that student loan. Anywho... I suppose one isn't the best judge of others' age at age seven.

Are you talking about Bob Marley the musician, or Bob Marley the Red Badge steward.
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Man that is so absolutely "phat" as DF....its quite funny but I oveheard a group of youngsters recently (17, 18yr olds etc) playing the ragga - pure genius of Marley but Tosh, is also da man. Add in Toot and the Maytals, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, Black Uhuru, Black Slate etc and you have some really groovin sounds....
I did not get the privelege to see Marley but I can remember going to the Newtown Trade Centre in John St (Indoor sports centre now) more than 15 years ago to see the Wailers and got into a lil trouble with the lawmen ...LOL...

That is quality!!! I take it Greenpace were picketing outside the concert hall.Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Dont let them change ya, oh! -
Or even rearrange ya! oh, no!
Weve got a life to live.
They say: only - only -
Only the fittest of the fittest shall survive -
Stay alive! eh!

And I guess, the best thing is that there are a few music video clips where Bob Marley was kicking the round ball - Jahman!
