For the past couple of years I have tried to get an answer from fellow Radio sport Journo Brendon Telfer about a severe inconsistency in his judging.
In 2008 the Kiwis won the Rugby League World Cup, and a few of months later the Kiwis
weren't nominated for team of the year at the Halbergs.
Telfer said on Radio Sport and I quote "The Rugby League World Cup is worthless"
He went on to explain on his show, that only a handful of countries play the game, so it cant really be deemed a world cup.
Yet a few years back he not only nominated the Silver Ferns but they won team of the Year at the Halbergs.
I would say Netball and Rugby League would be the same size globally.
I have written letters to radio sport, the Print media, and other Journos asking about this, but in two years I have yet to have an answer. I find it somewhat hypocritical, that he would be judge League and Netball differently.

A little birdie told you? 40 people sit on the Halberg award committee. One of them is Telfer who may say one thing. Another is Mark Richardson (I think) who has time and time again on CGW said that the AWs have the major awards at the Halbergs sewn up

I'm sure that you are not really surprised at his non response, because I'm not.
If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid
Are you up to the play when it comes to the dynamic of the Halbergs judging panel?

He knows, and that is why he won't reply.

But it's hardly like rowing or cycling is under represented at the awards is it? Or that the All Blacks win awards every year? It can't just go to the biggest sport, however. Rugby union may not be massive internationally but it is the sport that matters most to New Zealanders and that should count for something. The winner of any halberg award should be heavily supported by the New Zealand public or else winning it does not mean much.

I agree with what you are saying about netball. For such a boring sport that lacks international competition and also lacks a large following I don't see why they win awards or gets as much coverage as they do. Any Halbergs this year for them would be a joke. The moment of the year will be voted by fans, however, so your little birdie is horribly informed because voting hasn't started yet. Winston's goal will win the moment of the year because the people on yellow fever will most likely mobilise some campaign to make him win (and, of course, it is the most deserving moment.)

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Yeah but there are 10 moments. How could they possibly name 10 moments and not include the All Whites in there?

Its not a case of getting worked up over, its a case of unfairness and biaeds that is allowed to happen at the top level of Journalism in this country and also its the extreme hypocritcal nature of our top level journos and they never have to answer for it.

Its just sad that people can get away with it.
Netball will win moment of the year after the double extra time win at the com games
just how it is unfortunately

The halbergs are a two-penny half pie award in aa very smallcountry on the edge of the earth. Don't worry about it. Ryan Nelson's honour of the blakcburn captaincy is more prestigious than 100 halbergs.
He was the captain.
