Glenn Beck is up in arms over this. You have to be extra stupid to do anything which makes Glenn Beck defend Islam.

Really? I thought he would have been taking the freedom of speech angle, but only for white male straight christians. Just goes to prove how really ridiculously stupid this is.

He recently posted a link to this on his facebook page.

Im on vacation and trying to unplug but the news can make that hard. I just read the story about the Florida church planning to burn copies of the Koran.

What is wrong with us?  Its just like the Ground Zero mosque plan.   Does this church have the right?  Yes.  Should they?  No.  And not because of the potential backlash or violence. Simply because it is wrong.  The more I reflect on what happened on 8/28 the more I realize the amazing power of GOOD.

We must be the better person.  We must be bigger than our problems.  Bigger than the times in which we live.  Burning the Koran is like burning the flag or the Bible.  You can do it, but whose heart will you change by doing it?   You will only harden the hearts of those who could be moved.   None of those who are thinking about killing us will be affected, but our good Muslim friends and neighbors will be saddened. It makes the battle that they face inside their own communities even harder.

Let us rise above the current levels and elevate ourselves and our country.   The only thing this act would prove is that you CAN burn a Koran.   I didnt know America was in doubt on that fact.   Lets prove to each other that while there are many things we can do, there are maybe many more things that we choose not to do.

Apart from the bit about the Ground Zero mosque plan he sums up how I feel about most of these things.

"Book burning is antithetical to American ideals" Has she just made up a word there?

The mosque should be built. I don't think he should make any comparison with this.

I'm reminded of the plaque on the site in Berlin wherre the Nazis held their book burning that goes something like:

Those who begin by burning books will end by burning people.

Terrible idea.  Unfortunately the big reaction will probably only encourage them and harden their view, making them more determined to do it.  Terrible thing to do.

Maybe not. I've seen Star Trek, which is set in the future and there don't seem to be many people on there who would be banging on about the Koran. Most other ethnic groups seem to be represented (even the French), so I have a feeling I know the result already.

I'm slightly disappointed!

That's deliberate. Gene Roddenberry (the creator of Star Trek) was an agnostic humanist and envisioned the future as being mostly atheist. Specific religious references were avoided as much as possible, though there have been a few.

Aren't we now in the 2nd leg return fixture in the Christianity v Islam tie. First leg ended with a narrow 1-0 win for Islam with the creation of the Ottoman Empire 710 years ago, after an ineffectual performance up front from the crusading English Knights, Sir Wayne de Rooney and King Beckham I (The Goldenballs)

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

Well Christianty FC have put on their impact sub (Uncle Sam) and have dominated play without really scoring.

I think Islam United are just wearing CFC down and will take out the second leg too (in injury time).

Winner will then challenge Atheists Rovers (but will probably end up defaulting).

Loser goes on to face Buddhist Wanderers who bet Taoist FC 2-5 (aggregate) in their two legged battle back in 2nd and 4th century.Azevo2010-09-10 01:26:33

I think Atheists Rovers's morale is a little low at the moment, they're lacking in some self-belief.

Maybe you are confusing them with Agnostics Wanderers?

why all the hate on this thread?

If an american wants to burn a book, I think let him.  In much the same way I think that if a Pakistani wants to burn an american flag or a bible or any other book they can as well.  That is what the tolerance I preach is all about.

Maybe it is you lot who are the true mongers of hate?  Hmm?

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

Where are we at with the Jewish Albion vs Islam United local derby? Is Albion playing an Orthodox formation?
