Funny what keeps you awake at night.
Had one of those "What if I had a time machine machine?" type thoughts and decided to go back to the 70's pick up the Carry On team and remake Jackson's Lord of the Rings.
Thus no more sleep tonight.
This is who I'd have playing who:
Gandalf - Sid James - No possible argument there
Frodo - Jim Dale
Sam Gamgee - Bernard Breslaw
Pippin - Kenneth Conner
Merry - struggling here, Peter Gilmore or Kenneth Cope? Probably Kenneth?
Aragorn - Leslie Phillips - He loves hanging around in bars, (I say....)
Legolas - Charles Hawtry - Thought about him as Merry, but playing a camp elf wins the day.
Gimli - Peter Butterworth - Genius!!
Boromir - Terry Scott - Love the idea of this "Crikey! Orcs, Scarper!!"
And of Course Gollum - Kenneth Williams
other cast members:
Saruman - Frankie Howard
Galadriel - Hattie Jacques or Joan Simms?
Tree Beard - Jack Douglas
Awen - Barbara Windsor, (Jackie Piper or Liz Frazer better looking I reckon).
Theoden - Victor Maddern
Eowyn - Margaret Nolan - As Aragorn might mention "Ding Dong..." God knows how she'd get into any armour, just google image her name...
Faramir - Julian Holloway
Grima Wormtongue - Patsy Rowlands
Bilbo Baggins - Phil Silvers
Christ glad I got that out my system.

I can probably do that judging by the the amount of Ricki Herbert 'Knockers" on the match thread recently.

Sorry FT but this is a little insulting to such great works and to drag them through the gutter in this way I find extremely offensive.
There is no way the Tolkien would ever have been capable of writing such greatness as seen in the Carry-On genre. The very thought of someone as mediocre as Jackson attempting to direct such greats as Hawtry (who I once had the pleasure of seeing in Panto in Aldershot), Williams, and James, is something that will keep me awake for a long time.

I was hoping you'd read this as I reckoned you'd understand. I honestly lay there thinking of this and giggling away as Peter Butterworth and Terry Scott were running away from Orcs.Think of it with the Eric Rodgers theme music.
Junior - Cheers I think you are right beacuse of star appeal, but Joan did appear in more films than Hattie, tough call that one.

FT's nostalgia reminded me about two things:
1. World Cup LOLs.
2. Not Carry On, but vintage Ronnie Barker and Bernard Cribbins.
Last one I saw as a kid and wrote about it at school the next day (Ronnie Barker's dance). Showed it to mine last night and they loved it. Timeless.
