Yep a thorn in the US butt for many years. Acknowledged as having one of the best health systems in the world. He might not have been everyones cup of tea but he kept America on its toes when others didn't.

I went to Cuba for a couple of weeks about 5 years ago - amazing place.  I'm very pleased that  went when the big man was still bossing it.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

US President George W Bush has called on Cuba to prepare for free elections after Fidel Castro's announcement that he is retiring on health grounds.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Fidel gave up cigars in 1985. He was asked , not long after, what was the best thing to do with cigars. He replied "give them to your enemy".

The wonders of democracy. Like passing the power to your brother Raul, or your son George W.

I wonder if it will be the end for trendy coffee cafes in Wellington with  their boring old signs featuring  iconic dictators or revolutionaries in a vain attempt at masking  their over priced flat whites and lemon cake and their complicity with the greedy exploitation of coffee producing third world community's!
Just a thought!
Tea drinker myself "do try it!!"

The answer to life's problems are rarely found at the bottom of a beer glass - but it's always worth a look.
