Try at regular intervals to update my avatar, but keeps coming up with a server down screen. Any help appreciated.

Upload the picture yourself.
Either that, put it in a little folder on facebook and link to it off there.

There will be various reason of not uploading the avatar like server not supporting, or site has been moved to another, the size of avatar will not compatible etc.

Obviously we visit different websites to find our avatars.
