For many of us, the time between visits to Christchurch is measured in years.  Airport excluded, I haven't been in to Christchurch for 20 years.

Lonely Planet have publish a what to do in Christchurch page and temporarily (free) their Lonely Planet Chapter on Christchurch .

As a travelling footy fan, I would like to know where the new hubs are, where to eat, drink, enjoy a good coffee and how to get around, where to find buses and taxis.  Now is you chance to update us.

Avoid the skinheads, the hookers and the Avon.  Otherwise it's all good.

So avoid the Avon then?

Three for me, and two for them.

Changed a bit.  A lot more open spaces now.

Too soon?

the suburbs are where it is at,  -

Nightlife - if your under 20 - Riccarton. Lincoln Rd has some decent bars - if you like quality boutique beer check out Pomeroys on Kilmore / Fitzgerald Cnr, or Cassels Brewery in Woolston.

Do check out the ReStart Mall in Cashel St - get a good idea of the buildings that have been pulled down, suggest go on the edges of the redzone for a look in the city - still plenty to do and see. Dont want to sound like a disaster tourist - but no escaping it. If you have access to a car do go for a look in some of the eastern suburbs - Dallington / Avonside around teh Avon - have a look at some of the munted houses. I think many people think that things are normal down here but they are not so by having people visit these places they will appreciate more what we are coping with,

Hagley Park is always worth looking at - the museum is still open .

Buses - the Orbiter does a loop circuit linking all the malls in the suburbs, they go every 10 minutes or so.

Still plenty of good restaurants - depends what you are in to but something for everyone down here, we are a functioning city but a bit like a donut - have a big hole in the middle - but please do come down - all visitors welcome.
