I think the style should reflect the YF brand... loud, incoherent, and known to alienate some (mainstream) consumers.

But in all seriousness, whatever you choose will make most happy, and invariably others (sometimes vocally) not. Lagers tend to sell well and the more centred/generic the flavour profile the greater the appeal to a broader range of people (but you know that stuff already).

Though generic and mainstream isn't really the YF way is it? I'd love to see something a little twisted (again, reflective of the YF lol), but not so strongly as to alienate the majority of punters.

Anyway, good on you for having a crack. I'd offer to approach some of the Petone pubs but Smithy doubtless has that gig already nailed!

I look forward to some Yellow Fever Bare Belly Bitter!

Cheers!

Also, should have mentioned that the launch timeframes could coincide with Finals run... one of the main thrusts of the marketing side of things.

Send me your deets anyway Surge - Smithy is keen for others to run with it.

It will leave him more time to front podcasts, critique Sam Malcomson's work, etc.

Done - football clubs could be a good channel too, especially if there's a buck in it for them (or something)... ahhhhh hectolitre rebates - those were the days!

High alcohol Reddy Special?

Too bad you can't bottle or can it, could have different chants on each one, collect them all, etc.

I think something with a mix of the elements that make up the Nix - Vanilla for the Caketin, Smokey for the Nix rising from the Ashes of previous NZ A-League attempts and nicely rounded ale like most of the fans - maybe a red ale?

I've got a few contacts at some bars and footall clubs dotted around Welly if you need but might be doubling up. Drop me an email at [email protected]

Roll a keg down to Dunedin will you?

I like this suggestion. I was thinking of accompanying labels for the Fill your owns so can still do it there. Cans/Bottles aren't necessarily Day one but there is capability to look at in the future. For instance, for cans it costs $4000 to get the initial plate designs and can setup completed. Other options are being considered down the track.

If you tell me of a bar who would be seriously interested (e.g. Tonic, Inch, etc) then i'll get in contact with them down the track.

Will it just be you drinking it though Oska or is there a decent YF crew?

Haha the only other is Ahmed who doesn't drink. Inchbar would be fantastic though, and both Eureka and Ombrello's have a lot of taps (as does Tonic of course). Chick's Hotel could be keen?

I don't mind Mac's Sassy Red, as far as reasonably cheap widely available beers go.  Sorry Leigh, but I think Corona is watery and flavourless, even compared to other mainstream lagers - you may as well drink Brenner!

Tried Tuatara Dubbel the other day. Was quite impressed with it, very rich and strong. I see Tuatara have also opened their own pub on the bypass at the top of Cuba St. Sounds like they'll have a microbrewery on site too. Anyone checked it out yet?

Have you tried drinking it from a glass? The flavour changes dramatically to something more complex than regular mainstream lagers.

Not checked it out yet, we're lucky to have a lot of great places in Wellington, my favs being Fork n Brewer and Golding's Freedive.

A widely available option is Samuel Adams - most supermarkets have it now and it's pretty good..and on Super Markets, has anyone noticed that Pak n Save and New World have some great options while Countdown are awful for their beer choices?

Nah, I haven't had Corona in a glass. I'll take your word for it ;)

Fork n Brewer is a good pub, some of their own brews are quite tasty too - they had a really good porter a while back I think. I also like Rogue and Vagabond too - it's made that rapey park a lot more pleasant!

Love the idea of a yellow fever brew. There don't seem to have been many suggestions so I will throw my two cents in and say I love a good pale ale. Had Parrotdog's Dead Canary yesterday and it was superb. I'm sure a YF equivalent would be even better!

Anyone know where in town serves Lambic beers or has a good selection of sours in general? I figured Lueven would have Lambic's but they only have pretty generic Belgium beers.

You could try The Malthouse, pretty sure they've had them before and they have sour beers on a regular basis. The problem (if you can call it that) is that the best bars regularly change their beers so it can be hit and miss.

I suggest Tweeting them as they are all proactive in replying - try Hashigo Zake or Golding's Free Dive to start with and possibly Fork n Brewer.

Cheers, yeah I tried Hashigo and also Fork and Brewer a while back. The problem is they aren't consistantly available.

I was hoping that Leuven would have a reliable source - but obviously not.

That's the one. Flatmate moved out and her boyfriend left one, thoroughly enjoyable after a six-hour bus ride on Sunday.

Why do you drink lagers in Winter? Do your taste buds fly North for warmer climates?

No Lagers are traditionally a winter beer because Lager yeast ferments at a much lower temperature than an Ale yeast.

And cheers for the typo correction Jeff, of course I would like a larger lager.

Good point. Although depends on the beer I guess. Some will cellar for months if not years, most you drink in five or so weeks.

I like Cider. Have you tried those? I prefer Pear myself. On youtube they have the American advert for Dicken's Cider which is bloody funny but I would like to find out if it is any good flavourwise.

They are definitely around, probably more in specialty off licenses rather than in bars, apart from a keg here or there - I don't know New Jersey or New York however.

If you can't find NZ beers, then plenty of US beers use NZ hops from Nelson, Mamoth Brewing Company from California also brews in collaboration with some NZ breweries to create limited run US/NZ hybrids.
