I thought so. I went for the first time in 3 years the other day and came back with "you've got great teeth apart from two genetic dificiences we need to fill" and then "oh and please come back and see our hygienist"!

And then that will be $150 please?

The answer to life's problems are rarely found at the bottom of a beer glass - but it's always worth a look.

for the hygenist? Yup, thats after $330 for fillings, $120 for the initial consultation & then yes the $150 for the hygienest.

I got stung for $1300 recently, but better than losing a tooth to a lion (or common decay, I suppose) in africa Addicks2010-06-03 12:05:34

Dental Hygenists are one of the biggest cons of all time. All they tell you (in my experience) is to floss, brush twice a day, and stop eating sugary foods then charge you $150.
Went to on once, but won't be going again.

What is the point of a dental hygienist? What can they do that the dentist can't?

Sounds like a scam to me.

I got my 3 remaining wisdom teeth taken out before Xmas, my dentist asked me how the other extraction had gone, I said it had been horrendous and I looked (and felt) like I had been hit with a sledgehammer in the jaw for about 3-4 days after

He therefore referred to me a maxillofacial surgeon for the extraction. What a difference - certainly didn't experience anywhere near as much post op pain, very little swelling and was pretty much good to go with 24-36 hours.

It cost about $1200 all up - thankfully I had insurance to cover it though.

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

pfft - I need about $4000 worth. Some fillings, two crowns and a wisdom tooth removed. Fun times.
I like tautologies because I like them.

I was quoted that sort of money for crowns - so I just got the buggers pulled out.

Don't know how long that strategy will last before I have to resort to eating rice pudding and soup though.

Expensive but worthwhile!
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Haven't been for a while, Don't think I want to go as I can see me spending a crap load of money.

When I eat chocolate I get aching pains in my teeth. Got a few holes in them that need filled :(

I went down that ruote as well when I was going to university. Then when I finally went back (after about 5 years) he told me that about 1/3 of one of my teeth was missing and it had to be yanked. From there it took 3 years of chipping away at stuff until I finally got the "everythings up to date."

So I should go in sooner rather then later. Just wish I had the money to pay for it NHpeter2010-06-03 21:53:07

The sooner the better. When I got in he said I was 12mths away from getting both teeth taken out, as opposed to some fillings. I definitely prefer keeping teeth patched up as opposed to over priced gold ones (because I really am a pirate).

or you could just make sure you brush your teeth twice a day, and save a fortune! ;)
