I love it, possibly even more than football but there seems to be next to no other followers.
I got the Four Kings and there is a bit of a crowd there, but is nayone on here one of those crowd? Does anyone else watch it?

Big MMA fan here.  Fork out for more PPVs  than I should!

Awesome, finally someone else. I have been going to the Four Kings once a month to watch UFC events from March this year. Finally got Sky so thought I could buy the pay per view events on there but because I have cable run by Telstra Clear I can't book UFC events at home.
So annoying.
Do you know if there are any other bars that play UFC events?

Machida vs. Shogun?
Rothwell vs. Velasquez?
Only 2 good fights at UFC 104, well Spencer Fisher and Joe Stevenson aslo.

Machida all day long... Velasquez too, though saying that I haven't seen Rothwell fight properly yet. What do you think?

I want Shogun to win, only because I would love to see Anderson Silva () have a go at the light heavy belt, and him and Machida won't fight as they are mates, but am expecting Machida to cruise.

Haven't seen much of Rothwell, but Velsquez didn't impress me v. Kongo getting dropped at the start of every round so i'm not sure there.

Okami v Sonnen on the undercard should be a good fight, and hopefully they show that and the Hardonk v. Barry fight aswell, as I love K1 fighters.

Yeah that's a good point, it would be great, I'd like to see Anderson Silva take the light heavy title too, he could do it easy couldn't he, he is incredible. He may well get the next shot too if Shogun wins. (I'm still un-sure as to how Shogun got a title shot though... Don't think he deserves it quite yet after his performances in the UFC, Pride aside).
But Machida is a machine, he reminds me of Mr Myagi, everyone he says sounds like a quote from a martial arts epic.

Velsquez impressed me but I don't think he would have looked as good if Kongo had an ounce of a ground game. He just lay there and took a beating from Cain for rounds. But Cain couldn't finish himn even with all that ground and pound, it makes you wonder about his power. Kongo has great hands and kicks and almost knocked him out but Kongo has no chance without a ground game...
Especially against a guy like Lesnar.

I don't know if Velasquez is big enough and stong enough to really challenge, he's fit enough and skilled enough but that doesn't seem to enough at the moment. He needs excellent stand-up and power too.

What do you think of Vitor getting a shot after one fight?
Bit rubbish of Dana White I think, even if the fans want to see it. Hendo an Marquardt both deserve a shot (even though they have failed in the past).

Silva has 3 fights left.  Don't want to see two rematches against guys he has already destroyed that are likely to go the same way as before, so it makes sense for them to fight.  Of the two, I think Marquardt has the best chance v. Silva.  Henderson v. Silva is a boring fight if Henderson does well, as all Henderson can hope to do to win is to take him down, lay on top of him and cover his mouth for 5 rounds ala round 1 of Hendo v. Silva I.  There is no way that Silva gets caught with that awful telegraphed looping loaded right hook that is all Hendo threw in the Bisping fight.  Plus I can't stand him for the cheap shot that he laid on the unconcious Bisping.

Also, Henderson still hasn't signed a new contract and at the moment is looking to Strikeforce as UFC aren't offering what he wants, so the Hendo Marquadt fight isn't on the books at the momet.

Yeah that shot was rough huh?
You are right, I guess with 3 fights left for what is the UFC and worlds best pound for pound fighter, you want to see amazing fights from new challengers. I guess if Silva didn't only have 3 fights left it might be okay to give Marquardt or Hendo but you don't want to waste one of his last 3 on two guys who have failed before. Belfort is great, no doubt, but after only one fight back in the UFC in a catch-weight of 195 lbs, he might be out of depth in more ways than one when it comes to fighting Silva, he's certainly being thrown in the deep end.

Vera vs. Couture?
Carwin vs. Lesnar?

106 is a good fight card.

Don't really care about Vera v. Couture, but Vera should take it.  Can't stand him, but expect Lesnar to be to much for Carwin.  Much more looking forward to 107, got BJ v. Diego, Mir v. Kongo, Florian v. Guida, Alves v. Thiago, and really interesting undercard fights.

So who are your favourite fighters? Mine are Florian, GSP, Silva, Griffin, and Mir.

I hope Vera does, I really like him, but I don't know about his all round skills. He's an amazing muay thai guy, but I haven't really seen him on the ground too much. Will be an interesting fight.
Yeah I don't know about Carwin vs. Lesnar. Carwin's got the power in his hands for sure but Lesnar is quite right, he has only faced Gonzaga really and Gonzaga nearly knocked him out.
I think you are right about that but if Carwin can't beat Lesnar... Who can??? Thoughts?
Fedor isn't coming....

Penn might be too much for Sanchez... But I really like Sanchez.
Mir vs. Kongo will be good, especially as I hear Mir is going to try and just stand with him.
Florian and Guida will be a good scrap, both looking for a bit of redemption.
Same with Alves and Thiago.
Looking forward to Karo Parisyan vs. Dustin Hazelett too!

Been watching any of TUF 10 Heavyweights? I've found the episodes online.

Favourite fighters: Vera, Sanchez, Thiago Silva, Franklin, Machida, Belfort.
But favourite to watch: Anderson Silva, GSP, Machida, Lesnar, Penn.
Well all the champions! Haha all of them are going to be very hard to beat. All the title holders are each one hell of a force to be reckoned with.

Wow. Thoughts on UFC 104?
Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Hey, only just watched it now, as couldn't get PPV and don't know anywhere showing it here so had to find um... an alternate source, which took some time:
Thoughts - I think its a disgrace that any fighter can come in 6lbs over weight.  I feel very sorry for Yoshida (I know he gets 25% of Johnsons purse) as the loss still goes against his record.
Stevenson impressed me, although I still see him as a gatekeeper.
Sonnen was VERY impressive over Okami
Neer Tibau was a snore fest
Velasquez was good, but Rothwell doesn't have the striking of Kongo, and had no answer for Cains wrestling, stoppage may have been premature, but he was getting destroyed and I don' think it made a difference
Main event was a completely blown call.  I had the fight either 49-46 or 48-47 Shogun, depending on how the 2nd was scored.  Can't see how a unanimous decision (even including Cecil Peoples) could have gone to Machida.

Yours Please? :P

Carwin Lesnar now postponed,  Overweight Johnson v. Koscheck now co-main event with Griffin v. Ortiz - two fights i'm not overly thrilled by, so i'm even less excited by 106 now.

That was the first time i had seen Rumble fight, aside from his obvious weight advantage, I was impressed by him and am looking forward to his fight with Kos, that will be a very interesting fight. I think Kos is under-rated, he's on fire at the moment.
Stevenson looked good against Fisher, he looked different, he looked so happy to be in there, smiling the whole fight almost. Fisher is an impressive guy to beat, might be ready to take another run at the title, Greg Jackson does wonders for fighters!
Yeah Neer and Tibau got a bit boring, Tibau's first and second takedowns were good but it got pretty boring after that.

Velasquez impressed yet again, amazing wrestling, dominated Rothwell, completely disabled him. Rothwell was peeved about the stoppage but so was Velasquez I think, he really wanted to make an impression and I think he wanted to pound out a proper KO or TKO to show he's got power in those hands, people are doubting his ability to finish and an early stoppage didn't help but it's another win. The guy deserves a shot but... He's either going to come up against Lesnar or Carwin who are both great wrestlers so his main weapon in the arsenal has bascially been neutralised and I am not that sure about his chin or his ability to do damage standing up...
We'll see, he impresses me though.

Machida and Shogun... I was really gutted. So was everyone else where I watched it. All sat there in disbelief. That was a rip... Machida was dominated for atleast 3 rounds, more likely 4. I could have pretty much given him all 5. I was shocked when they called out Machida as the winner. It tarred Machida for me a bit even though it wasn't his decision. Disappointing now as we won't see Shogun and Silva.

As for 105 and 106...
Brandon Vera and Randy Couture, Couture the dominant fan pick for this one?
I'm rooting for Vera.
Looking forward to Dan Hardy and Mike Swick too, be interesting. Title shot to Swick if he wins surely.
Don't know if I like Bisping or not, look forward to him fighting Kang.

For 106 it's such a bummer Lesnar and Carwin got pulled!
But I am looking forward to Tito and Forrest. What do you think on that one?
Both got points to prove. I know you're a Forrest fan but I'll root for Tito... Would be good to see him come back strong and shake up the LWH division.
Kos and Rumble will be a good one, Kos will be a tough fight as always, don't know much about Rumble, I hope he has good take dwon defense and a ground game. He's going to want to keep that one standing.
Amir Sadollah taking on Phil Baroni... Felt sorry for Sadollah against Hendricks, Baroni is a knob but he's entertaining and can thorw some good ones so will be interesting for sure.
Little Nog is fighting Luiz Cane, I have seen neither of them fight... Both good names though.

Really looking forward to Dustin Hazelett and Karo Parisyan, those two are big personalities, super entertaining and awesome fighters. Fight of the Night.

Card on the whole was pretty good.  Round 2 and 3 I thought Vera clearly won, so dissapointed that Couture got the nod.  Swick v. Hardy and Wilkes v. Brown I thought were good fights.

If Griffin Ortiz II was the co-main event instead I think it would be a brilliant card, so should be good.

LOL at Parisyan Hazelett fight of the night!  Not anymore.  At least the UFC have decided to still pay Hazelett to show and the win bonus.  Feel sorry for him though as he doesn't get to fight.

Yeah something needs to be done in regards to how MMA is being judged. The Shogun vs. Machida decision was worse but this was an upset too. Vera inflicted more damaged and looked more likely to finish the fight, looked much more dangerous. I was very disappointed with the main event, if Couture is going to fight like that then maybe it's time to hang up the gloves...

I'm looking forward to 106 but just saw that Karo Parisyan has pulled out against Dustin Hazelett which sucks, two days before the fight, apparently Karo will never fight in the UFC again according to Dana. Still looking forward to Koscheck and Rumble, Sadollah and Baroni and little Nogs UFC debut against Luiz Cane. Definitely looking forward to Ortiz and Griffin too.

Both of them have a bit to prove....

Haha timing, you've got your finger on the pulse too, I like it!
Do you think they can bring someone in this quick to fight Hazelett or he just gets the money and fights some other time?
I wonder what Karo's reasoning was?

UFC 106 was pretty good, I enjoyed it probably more than 105...
Saunders has good against Davis, Saunders had wicked knees in his clinch game.
Sadollah dominated Baroni, Baroni gassed out real quick and turned into a punching bag for the next two rounds.
Little Nog did what expected and knocked out Luiz Cane, thought little Nog had it on the ground or stand up, he's a former Brazilian Super Haevy Weight Boxing Champ. Look-out Lyoto.
Volkman is a tough dude but Paulo was tougher...

Lots of eye gouging and fouls in the Kos/Johnson fight but Kos looked good and tapped him with the choke, look to see Kos and Hardy at it. Be some good sh**talking.
Forrest and Tito had another good fight, Tito gassed in the 3rd though and didn't do much, gave it away in the 3rd. Looks like he could work on his boxing a bit more. Forrest looked good.

Loved 107 - Mir stopping people sh*tting on his standup for a while but putting down Kongo on his feet, Florian Guida was cool, and BJ destroying Sanchez round by round. For a cursed card 108 was fairly entertaining, Cole Millers submission of Lauzon with a kimura from an inverted triangle was pretty f**king cool!

UFC 109 does not enthuse me with the old men headlining the card, UFC 110 (From Syndey) is shaping up to be a pretty cool card, and most looking forward to 111 with GSP Hardy for the Welterweight title, Kampmann v Saunders, Alves v Fitch (if Fitch wins, I would love a Fitch v Daley for the next title shot, but they may not want to risk Daley against a great wrestler like Fitch so early) and Mir v. Carwin for the interim Heavyweight belt.

Your thoughts?

107 was good, liked the Struve vs. Buentello stand up war! Was a good start.
Can't stand Belcher, I think he is a twat, can't believe he thinks he is in the same league as Anderson Silva.
Florian looked good, Guida had an interesting entrance.
Yeah I think Mir silenced a lot of people, I'm not a huge Mir fan myself but as a fighter he is incredible. He's looking good too, put on some great size and power, he's looking the complete package. I'd much rather see Mir vs. Fedor than Lesnar vs. Fedor.
Main event, everything Sanchez did Penn could do better, must be frightening when you have used all your tools and the other guy isn't scathed. Penn looked incredible.
That gash was nasty.

Daley is looking amazing, destroyed Hazelett, don't know much about his ground game but he stand up is incredible. Dos Santos looked good as per usual. Rashad dominated and fought smart... Question that chin of his but he came through with the win. Silva couldn't do anything on the ground. Looking forward to Rampage and Evans. Predictions? (Should it happen).
109... I like how Couture joked about how it should be called the geezers at Caesars.
110, lloking forward to Velasquez and Little Nog. Winner of that fights the winner of Carwin or Mir for the interim title I think.
UFC on versus Bones Jones vs Vera will be a good one. Jones looks amazing.
Dos Santos vs Gonzaga... How much does Dos Santos have to do to get a title shot?
Should be next in line if he wins this.
111 looks cool, Haven't seen Carwin in a while so will be an interesting battle with Mir, hate to predict a winner there.
I think GSP will be too much for Hardy but... I do think Hardy is good and smart so think he will put in a good effort, also he has a good point "If Matt Sera can knockout GSP, than why can't I?".

Nelson and Struve will be interesting. Nelson will be interesting in the UFC, Struve will be a tough test for him too because he is coming on at the moment.
Kongo vs. Buentello has been added on Versus too, what a card. That will just be a stand up war.
I think I'll give Kongo the nod there.

I see Kiwi James Te Huna has sigend a contract with the UFC and is fighting at 110 in the prelims!
That's cool.
UFC 112 is looking to be epic, both Penn and Silva putting their belts on the line at the same event! (allegedly).
I like Frankie Edgar and it seems the only two contenders left at lightweight are him and Maynard.
But I don't see anyone at lightweight taking BJ, I'd like to see BJ move up permanently to welterweight. Silva and Belfort... Silva, bit will be a tough test possibly.
I think they have thrown Belfort in too deep, hasn't even had a fight at Middleweight  in the UFC yet and here is is fighting for the title... Against the Spider? Come on...

Ahhh this doesn't matter now, Belfort is injured and can't fight in April anymore.
Leaves the UFC in quite predicament as apparently The Spider has to defend his belt as it will be a year in April since his last defence.
Sonnen would be the logical choice but he is out with his cut, Marquart just lost to Sonnen so would be weird to give him a shot... Maybe the winner of Bisping/Wanderlai? I don't know. Damn.

Who do you pick for Velasquez and Nogueira?
Permalink Permalink
about 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
wow, with Marquadt just having lost, Henderson out, Maia having a sloppy looking win, and only 1 fight off his Marquadt loss, Sonnen and Belfort injured, this division just became a bit of a clusterf**k. Winner of Bisping Wanderlai is uninspiring (would Anderson even agree to fight Wanderlai - same camp aren't they?) and i'm at a loss to see a competitive match up at 185. Could end up being a lightheavy or 'Franklin' weight superfight, with the title on hold for yet another 6-9 months

Would they dare match him with Couture at 205?

Nogueira for me. I was underwhelmed by Velsquez against Kongo standing, and if/when it goes to ground i'd back Nogs BJJ over Cains GnP
Permalink Permalink

Yeah it's a real mess. Good point I think they are in the same camp and I think Silva would kill Bisping anyway. Not good news, I think they are just going to have to delay the bout. I think it has already been delayed from UFC 108! I wonder how long he will be out for, will be a while with shoulder surgery.

Will have to be a Light Heavy Weight battle, I could see the Couture fight happening, Couture has been talking about wanting to fight him and Randy always does well as the underdog so I wouldn't put it past him to beat Silva but I don't know. Silva is a beast...
Apparently majority of top 10 LHW fighters are all booked an engaged in other fights, so I don't know who else they could pit him against?

Yeah I think Nog vs. Cain will be a very interesting fight. I invest a lot stock in Cain for some reason, he has great wrestling. Saying that that will be nullified if he comes up against Carwin or Lesnar in the future. I am going to go with Cain but I think it will be a very tough fight and he has to avoid both Big Nogs good stand up and his excellent ground game... But I think Cain does his homework. We will see next weekend.

Cain Velasquez, believing the hype yet?
I wasn't expecting that, as much as I like Big Nog I was hoping Velasquez would do the deal and man... He did it. I was impressed, he is getting better and better.

What do you think of Mir and Carwin facing off for the interim? I don't think they are deserving really, not in comparison to Dos Santos and Velasquez right now.

I think Carwin had the next shot, so had to be involved, Velasquez had Nog, JDS looks good, but hasn't really beat a top ranked fighter yet (yes, at this point I am discounting Cro Cop until he proves me otherwise)leaving Mir the only one left. To be honest I would have preferred a 4 man mini tournament with the two winners facing off for the interim title (assuming Lesnar takes that long) but I would bank on Cain getting the first shot at it if Lesnar isn't ready, so at the end of the day I don't think it is going to make a huge difference. Cain was impressive, Nog is a very tough man. I wonder if the shots are catching up to Nog, but I can't argue with his performance in Aus at all.

Yeah It's just been so long since he fought, but it's not his fault.
I'm looking forward to Mir getting a beat down from someone, Carwin or Lesnar.
I never thought someone would actually make me root for Lesnar but Mir's latest comments have written him off completely for me. It's a shame because he has so much talent.
We will see.

Yeah Cain is worth the hype, the only thing that worries me is his size/strength but it hasn't mattered so far, he's looked good. I think JDS will destroy Gonzaga.
