The last thing a country as poorly off as Haiti needs at the moment.  One positive is the Tsunami warning was lifted.  In addition to that the LA fire department is heading over to provide relief.

Hopefully this will bring attention to their plight and something will actually be done.

Maybe KFC will send them some fried chicken (if there was an emoticon for sarcastic I would use it here).

You need to read the "Racist KFC Ad" to understand the context for my comment.

I have been fighting a losing battle all week against people who couldn't even find Haiti on a map let alone begin to understand how the country could come to be so terribly exposed to a natural disaster like this.

What do you do when a devestating earthquake strikes the poorest western hemisphere country?  Effectively the quake has reduced nothing to nothing.

Pretty sure Haiti is the poorest country in the world, not just western hemisphere.

That was what I thought as well.

The environmental degradation in that country is appalling which makes things even harder for the Haitians (and in many cases helped to make things the way they are).

Yes. And the Indian Ocean one was 9.3. This is probably up there in terms of damage done though. Haiti already have nothing. Poor Haitains, they're gonna have an incredible struggle rebuilding that country.

Three for me, and two for them.

Good point.  Also considering that this one wasn't out at sea and it was very shallow.
