Fashion in Tokyo
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

I went to Shibuya last night to catch up on what's hot in fashion. Parco is one place that caught my eye. Issey Miyake, Comme des Garcons and Japanese names like Junya Watanabe

But there was something horrific in Parco Part 1. Some &$&$&$ had taken the cover of the first Killing  Joke album and reworked it, playlist and all, into some shirts. Well, I wasn't having that....  we had a discussion. Old punk rocker, err that would be me, got all disgruntled....

Then on to HAIB and their coated (what coating? ...Language gap created answer problem!) denim which looked space age. My last denim jacket cost me $90 so the throught of having to pay $500 made me say ...no.

Now on to 5351 which gets a special prize. One for being so underlit I couldn't tell you what anything looked like. Two for the stoniest and most aloof because I am so frigging cool shop assistant in the history

Another mention, not in Parco,  is Bathing Ape. Their shop entrance is all flashing steps and an under floor conveyor bellt full of shoes...  I will post a clip later.

Aren't you a bit early? The All Whites don't play in Tokyo until late March

BAPE (Bathing Ape) was huge 5 years ago, everyone wearing fake stuff, even semi famous rappers. Blame it on Pharrell Williams, he also launched BBC (Billionaire Boys Club) with Nigo. BAPE is still popular with the Asian community.

Get yourself some ice-cream sneakers?

I have a Bathing Ape sweatshirt.   I bought it in 2003.  (Ahead of fashion)

I went down and nothing in the realm of COSPLAY was happening. No idea what the score is but no pics.

Jeez is Issey Miyake still alive? He was living in Paris at the same time as me in the early 90s. He started that thing where you have slither of hair dangling either side of the forehead. Had a European girlfriend who appeared in a video with her dressed as a Japanese woman and him as a European. Bloody good sense of humour too.
Was on tv and laughed at Jean-Paul Gaultier when ever he got too daft .
He experimented with micromesh, breathable plastic and pleats. 20 years later the fabric technology is still innovative. edward l2011-02-14 22:26:21

Having spent 2 months over the summer on language exchange in Japan, I find this thread great! Spent 3 weeks homestay in Tokyo over the New Year.

Tokyo is amazing. Love it.

Haha the host family insisted we wear white to clean the temple! "To purify the temple, we too must be pure" or something along those lines. The looks we got from everyone though.

Dairyflat, have you visited Meiji Jingu just passed Harajuku bridge? That is the temple in question.
