Hi,

it started on Friday.
Anyone else going to anything?
Must admit the programme's a bit large this year; I haven't been all the way through it yet.

Mostly I'm going on the recommendations of friends and family who've already seen stuff in Auckland.

Went to O'Horten tonight which was rubbish!

I love the film festival. I went to two in the weekend - To Each His Own Cinema and Ashes of Time Redux. Both of which were good. Going to Up the Yangtze and Ben X tonight. WIll probably go to something tomorrow night then have a break until the weekend.

Yeah the programme is a bit larger this year. I originally scheduled in 41 films (After two culls! Slightly ridiculous...) but obviously won't go to all of them due to uni assignments and the fact that 41 films is a fair bit of money.

Bigger Stronger Faster* looks interesting, (steroids one)

Wanting to see that Brazilian 'Elite Squad', heard its like 'City of God' and if its anything like it then it should be good.

Got a mate who's loves Hunter S. Thompson, probably see that, don't really know much about him, so might get out Fear and Loathing... before hand.

[REC] is suppose to be some freaky sh*t and shot on handycam

Good I can read your posts and go by your recommendations too. Being in Chch the film fest. is after Wellingtons

Go see Up the Yangtze and Bex X. I just got home from those tonight (well about an hour ago)

Up the Yangtze is a doco which focuses on some of the people affected by the Three Gorges Dam project - very moving, and quite sad really.

Ben X was cool. Run Lola Runs meets Jean-Luc Godard and Bertolt Brecht utilizing video game narratives/images.

If you get a chance see Welcome to the Sticks and L'Invit, the usual polished French farce.  The locals have to play up to regional stereotypes and take it a whole lot further.  "What sort of meat is this barbeque?, bang, "Fido, fido..."

Ooool, Smarah, you'll have to fill me in as to what you guys get. I'm missing lots as they don't fit into my schedule.

Bigger, Faster, Stronger was an interesting doco on steroids.
Kinda like Fast Food Nation, but more personal.

I'm seeing Buddha Collapsed Out of Shame tonight at Te Papa. Probably won't make any more until next weekend as I have two hand-ins next week. Lame.

Rub it in Sorry I couldn't make it, would have loved to but yeah, bad timing budget wise

Hopefully it'll be showed at Lighthouse...
